This has no special features at all, there's supposed to be a box set with this and the lotr movies later this year with the special features if I'm not mistaken.

All we know for sure at this point is there is supposed to be a big motherload box set of all six films, Theatrical AND Extended, including extras sometime mid-to-late summer this year. That said, I'm sure each trilogy will get separate releases that actually have bonus content in a few years' time.

Waiting for news on the six-film set, myself. I get the feeling the official announcement is going to be cutting it rather close to the set's actual release date.

I didn't import the regular set hoping that the ultimate set would actually happen

I've watched Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug - and maybe it's because I'm starting watching these at night too late, or I'm just old and tired, but the extended editions are a slog to get through, I've nodded off a couple of times.

Yea any movie that has that kind of run time is a slog to get thru. Especially 4hr Justice League.

yet with Justice League - you had chapters, you could stop, take a breather, take a quick walk around the room, get a snack And even with the Hobbit films being only around three hours or less, you can see why Jackson pruned it down - some scenes go on too long or are not necessary.

Huh, weird. I watched the extended editions for the first time this past week and wanted more. Felt short, binging them right after the LOTR extended trilogy.

I swear Justice League is at least twice shorter than The Irishman.

Yeah Justice League didn't feel anywhere near as long as it was for me. Watched it in one sitting with quick toilet and snack breaks. The Irishman on the other hand did indeed feel much longer.

The Hobbit films didn't feel too bad in their extended forms either for me. LOTR felt more sluggish for me this time through.

I managed to do it again last night - was watching 'Battle of the Five Armies' - 37 minutes in, and out like a light - will watch the remaining two hours tonight.

Each Middle Earth film is divided into several chapters. You can stop, take a breather, and do a few laps around the room at any point you desire. That's the beauty of viewing films at home.

I don't pause anything unless absolutely necessary. I've found that it detracts from the experience. It's as if you're taking yourself out of the movie. But that's just me.

I'd rather pause than feel fatigued. Obviously it also depends on the situation. Am I too tried to continue watching, do I need a toilet break, do I want a snack or drink, or is it a movie I find is dragging its feet but I'm somewhat curious to finish etc. Each to their own, but I don't see an issue in pausing.

we do it with books, and even with Justice League that has chapters, just finding a good point to pause/stop a movie at home doesn't seem like a major distraction or pulling me out of the story IMO.

Have you ever thought that sometimes this fatigue was intended? It may be crazy, but it has crossed my mind more than once.

Books are a totally different medium... But anyway, I don't mind pausing films with natural breaking points too.

No. The mere thought of that is baffling to me. It's also a recipe for disaster from a film making perspective.

I'm only saying all this because pausing has become an addiction for me, one that I'm still struggling to overcome.

It's like I have ADHD now. And it detracts from my experience.

I love movie theaters even more now, as they make me watch it all in one sitting.

I hadn't seen this in awhile but not only did this look great on 4K UHD, I forgot how bonkers the action gets in the R-rated cut of the battle sequences, the amount of decapitated orc heads that fly and the cart 'of death' scene recalls 'Dead Alive' where Jackson went full on 'lets just go overboard here'
