People bought them all one by one on DVD starting around the turn of the century. First, they released S6part1 on Blu ray in 2006, then S6P2. Then season 1 came out on BD in 2009. Then years went by and none of the other single seasons made it to BD disc. Eventually there was a whole box set for the entire series of blu-rays for around $225. It has frequently gone on sale for $99 or less in the following years. Now its currently available on Amazon for only 90 bucks.

tl;dr: Early adopters got screwed.

Band of Brothers was finished on digital, sorry. I don't think a true 4K version would be impossible, they did re-do The Wire after all, but it would require a much greater effort than just re-scanning some completed reels.

Individual seasons and TV shows are no bueno at this point. People have been burned too many times by shows not being finished on the blu-ray format. I just don't see the point in doing just season 1.

To see if people are willing to buy Blu-rays of it again in 4K. Why spend all the time and money and effort on the entire series if it won't sell well enough?

I bought all of those individual collector's edition seasons of Star Trek:TNG on DVD in the early 2000s and am trying to sell them.

Paramount did with Star Trek: The Next Generation in HD and not enough people bought it, hence no DS9 or VOY in HD.

Various Star Trek complete series' being available on multiple streaming services might have something to do with that.

Can't blame the customers when companies cannibalize their own IPs.

This IS great news! Yep, the same person who bought Sgt. Peppers & The White Album 8 times on different formats, the same person who already owns seasons 1-7 on BD, will buy this Day one, and I'll pine for the subsequent releases up until season 8 rolls .......next yr at this time.

Westworld (the only other HBO UHD Blu-ray release) also has Atmos and Vision, so this seems like a trend for HBO now.

Season 1 was shot in 1080p, so aside from potential compression improvements, there won’t be any increase at all.

They really should have just called the format “Ultra HD” (or maybe even HDR HD), and dropped “4K” completely.

Look at the TNG HD thread, especially the early part. The same "I'm going to wait for the complete series set" - People making the discs: "Please buy them on release or there won't be DS9 in HD" - guess what happened.
