I'll be getting this but not right away. I enjoyed the film when I went to see it (it wasn't my choice) and thought it was going to be just another special effects extravaganza without an interesting plot but I was pleasantly surprised how engaging it was. The last 30 minutes were a lot of fun. I like Dwayne Johnson as an actor even if he's appearing in WAY too many movies lately.

If It was you would think the bullet holes and the giant hole in his chest would have healed much sooner, if a broken arm can be fixed in a few minutes. |

It's kind of a ridiculous movie. The script isn't that great either. Still, it's a bit of nice escapist fun that we enjoyed.
I wish we could've seen more of the alligator as it made it's way to Chicago. You'd think the military would've dropped a moab on the wolf and George before getting to Chicago since they were tracking them anyway, but the story would've ended. The monster animals looked really good. The fine hair of George's fur was quite noticeable. The scars and wrinkles on the wolf looked great and the alligator's scales were great, too. I watched on our OLED and the movie seemed pretty bright to my eyes. I took the OLED light from 30 to 20 which helped. When we first got the TV I had it at 50, then went to 40, 30 and now 20. The sound was pretty amazing, IMO. I liked how clear it was and the explosions and roars were pretty awesome. It wasn't as loud as I liked, but no complaints whatsoever. For a fun escapist ride, this fits the bill. Just crank it up when you watch and you won't be disappointed. 3.5/5 |

Watching on my display, and I say this without having seen the BD, the detail was pretty good. When George gets tranquilized, there is very fine hair that gently wisps about as he falls and you could make out each individual one. I can't say that it's an improvement over the BD, but it's still pretty damn good, IMO. |

I picked up my copy and watched it last night. As Cynatnite said, a fun escapist movie. I had a bit more of a problem with the supporting cast, though. Malin Ackerman, Naomi Harris, and Jake Lacy did nothing for the film. I think I was a bit more annoyed by their presence than anything, and I actually generally like Malin Ackerman. I wish Marley Shelton could have had more screen time, though. Jeffrey Dean Morgan did fine and thankfully I don't think channeled too much of Negan in the film. Still despite the supporting cast being hit-or-miss, I had a fun, fun time with the movie. It was worth purchasing to me, but I can figure this might be better served as a rental for the rest of the blind-buy crowd.
Regarding picture quality, being filmed digitally, they added a solid amount of fine grain throughout. The detail was quite sharp throughout which, thankfully, also applied to the digital animals. The detail in each of the three animals was actually quite gratifying. Typical motion blur that takes the believability out of digital-created characters was pretty limited. The usage of HDR was fine, more on the reserved side of spectrum. Specular highlights glistened nicely, but I don't recall seeing anything eye-seeringly bright. Black levels were quite good throughout. The shots in space actually look like shots in space, as opposed to films like Star Wars: TLJ or other space films that turn inky space background into ink diluted with milk. Overall a very fine presentation that adds to the enjoyment of this film. Also, I did take a little bit of time to go through the Blu-ray as well. The blu-ray looks a bit more overcooked in the colors department. Definitely less natural versus the UHD presentation. As bitrate's screenshots show, the level of detail is noticeably muddier on the blu-ray. You can see a lot of the detail, but it is not refined and the textures on things are somewhat lost. The difference in detail to me was even more pronounced when I compared them on my TV as opposed to looking at the screenshots on my computer monitor. I also thought the improved image quality actually helped the CGI in this film. To me, the animals looked a tad less believable, especially the wolf, while I was browsing through the BD. |

Watched this at my friends place the other day on his 4K HDR LG set. I was a little wary since there were so many saying the movie wasnt that good. I had an absolute blast watching this. Such a fun film. And I enjoyed all the characters. Even the cartoon villains. Although I dont recall the picture being washed out like the image above. It was extremely vibrant as it should be and plenty of detail. I'd absolutely watch this film again.

BB.com is not like Amazon. Also if you care about these things then why do you guys put in day1 pre-orders?? That's not how it works if you are trying to get the lowest price possible. |
