I actually bought the BB 4K steelbook. Proud to have it on my collection. Until Bernthal, Stevenson was my favorite Punisher

Just rewatched The Punisher & War Zone back-to-back (haven’t watched the 2004 film in awhile).

I wish they could’ve somehow mixed these 2 together and it would’ve been an awesome experience.

Take Stevenson’s Punisher (he’s a walking Tim Bradstreet Cover), the villain of War Zone (Jigsaw), the look of the and mix it with the characterization, and tone of the 2004 film = perfection.

I’m amazed these films had same budget also. The action in War Zone tops a lot of the 2004 film imho…especially the opening and closing of War Zone. But the 2004 film has that 70s revenge flick feel to it.

Either way, it’s cool to have so many iterations of the punisher to watch and appreciate.

Ranking:
Bernthal
Stevenson
Jane
Dolph

The 2004 film was just a chore to sit through last time I watched it. I saw War Zone once and enjoyed it, need to rewatch soon.

Yeah I recently had a non MCU marvel marathon, and the Thomas Jane Punisher is the only I just can't take. I got 15 minutes into it and had to stop. And by non MCU, I'm including the 3 Fantastic Four, the Daredevil/Elektra, X-Men universe, Blade, Ghost Rider (including the lame sequel). And the Jane Punisher is the ONE movie I just can't take. It'd be a movie I can only watch fully loaded if I actually got bored. War Zone on the other hand is incredible. Sorry,, the Netflix punisher was bad IMHO. It missed the point. He wasn't someone who enjoyed torturing criminals, just ending them.

The crazy thing is the 2015 Fantastic Four is OOP on UHD disc so it is now selling for north of $50 on eBay for a movie that is considered one of the worst. Even Goodwill is selling it for more than $50.

Sorry not sorry, Jon Bernthals Punisher from Daredevil season 2 is my favorite depiction of the character so far. The actual Punisher seasons weren’t that great though— way too slow paced, which became a problem for most of those Marvel Netflix shows.

I don’t like War Zone (for a campy take on the character I prefer the Dolph Lundgren one), but the Tom Jane film grew on me after being initially disappointed with it in theaters. The extended cut officially made me a fan of the film. Not everything works in it, but there’s some good scenes and a great payoff at the end.

OMG really? It isn't that good a movie, but it isn't that bad. I can still enjoy it.

I hope Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases the 2004 The Punisher film and Punisher: War Zone on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray internationally.

We understand. You just didn't need to post the same exact things in both Punisher threads.

Lol.

Any word on if the transfer is a clear step up from the Blu - or are there issues on this format?

Imho, the Blu-ray is already beautiful, the 4K is a step up and has better shadow detail.

Cheers. Caught it on Netflix UK today and was shocked by how fun it was. I know people say it's the best comic-to-screen adaption of a specific Punisher era, but for me it was like seeing a movie version of The Punisher 2005 game by Volition which I still adore to this day.

It's a piece of trash in the best way possible. Gorgeous colours, tastefully shot and full of gunk and gore - all anchored by a shockingly reserved and nuanced performance by Ray Stevenson.

Until Bernthal, Stevenson was my favorite Punisher. He wasn’t brooding. In the film, he’s a man on a mission; almost Terminator-like. With hints of humanity still in there.

You should listen to the HDTGM podcast episode about this movie. I had no intentions of watching this movie until they reviewed it. The director Lexi Alexander only did this film to get cred in Hollywood and be able to do other movies that she wanted to make.

This is a fun movie.

I love this movie. The Wire and Rome are my favorite HBO Original series So Dominic West and Ray Stevenson together was an all star collaboration for me. I also love and still play that Max Payne style Punisher Game Jabroni Mentioned a few posts ago as it has a few patches that make it run on modern windows and removes the gore filter. There was no way this movie would be a miss for me.
