You should have shown more respect for Mr. Siegel's 100% valid point that Disney seems to be killing Fox's 4K catalog work, which was the context for his statement.

Most likely the only reason we got Home Alone was it was too far along in the disc mastering process & Disney thought they could still get SOME life out of it. Sadly, though the same argument probably could have been made for The Sound of Music (MUCH closer to the original topic of this thread), Disney seems to have killed Fox's work on it and won't even let it be 4K on Disney+, much less UHDBD or EST/VOD streaming.

The good news is, Paramount seems FAR less cavalier about its 70mm-era crown jewels (like The Ten Commandments) than Disney, which couldn't even be bothered to do Sleeping Beauty (animated in Super Technirama 70, *not* a Fox acquisition) in 4K. Oh well, BACK ON TOPIC!
well they DID do semi-justice to releasing 'The Black Cauldron' in 4K albeit on Disney+ but on the whole they are just lazy and at this point suggest they don't just give a damn - shame the acquisition of the Fox titles shut the door on what could have been some truly stellar 4K UHD catalog titles.

Guess the rest of the world doesn't agree with you or else Disney wouldn't be as successful as it has been in it's Direct To Consumer effort: Disney+. 13 months: 86+ million paid subscribers. It took Netflix 9 years to accomplish that.

Dude, the person I quoted has a sister who works at a different company. It's almost like having a cousin who has a friend who has an aunt who has a hairdresser who has a kid that works in the mail department of the home video division. I wouldn't exactly call that an industry insider. And I was not discussing Disney's killing off of Fox's 4K catalog work. So how would I show 100% respect to the post about Fox, when I wasn't talking about that? I was simply pointing out that Disney has released something "catalog related" since Home Alone. There was no context given in the original part of the post i was mentioning about whether it is live-action or something that had ample reason to be moved up the pipeline.

And I was not particularly cherry-picking "ONE" specific sentence to "disprove' anything the poster said. i just saw something in the whole of the post that caught my eye, which happened to be a short sentence. And I was simply commenting as though they may have forgotten about Mulan coming out. Which I am guilty of doing very often in situations like this. Nothing I said was mean spirited or out to viciously attack someone and give them 30 lashings. It was just a comment, not the Spanish inquisition.

The original part of the post that I caught on to was very vague in exactly what it was referencing. So it read as being general about Disney as whole and not Fox related. Again, I was not trying to cause Blu-raygate. I was just making a comment. I am sorry I opened my mouth and peed off a lot of people. Forgive me for that. I will apologize sincerely to the original poster, show more respect, and say 30 hail marys. Jeez.

But seriously, I really did mean no harm and I DO apologize if I have upset anyone. I thank those who took the time to read my long comments and respond. i will try to better at not antagonizing. Unintentionally or otherwise. Have a great start to your week.

I really have a hard time see Disney being flippant with a release like the Sound of Music.

Why? They're pretty flippant with Fantasia. And that's their own movie. Last year was the 80th anniversary and they didn't even do squat for that movie. Read the writing on the wall.

To each their own, but I would not put the two in the same category.

Seems like the order date for retailers is Feb 12 2021. At least in Canada. So I guess it will pop up for pre-order soon after that. Don't count on the cover artwork shown being the final one.

I wonder if they will just have the 1923 version as a bonus on Blu Ray?

Wow, I was just telling my wife last week after watching a documentary on Charlton Heston how I used to watch this every holiday season with my late father. It was one of his favorites and something we really enjoyed together. She asked me.. “well, is it out on 4K yet” and I replied “no” as I had no idea it was slated for a release until now. Ironically I have not brought myself to watch it since his passing 27 years ago right after Christmas. Now it’s coming out on my 49th birthday. The same age my father was when he passed. I’m not an overly religious man but that kinda feels like a God thing. I will definitely be picking this up.

That is correct. One is a classic that changed the scope of movies forever. And one has got Mary Poopins in it. But, as you say, to each their own.

Paramount has not relisted any titles that I am aware of and they aren’t an MA compatible studio so buying it at $4.99 in HD will get you the 4K Dolby Vision upgrade.

The same has happened for previous Paramount digital releases on iTunes.

OK, so the statement that it was "On sale on iTunes for $4.99" was incorrect with the thread being The Ten Commandments 4K UHD (1956). Thank you for confirming my suspicion.
