The 89 minute cut is missing the extended opening, but is uncut for violence. The 101 minute cut has the extended opening, but is trimmed for violence. To be honest the extended opening is a bit of a throwaway, although it does introduce us to Louis Mandalor's Sherriff-who we never see again, and pays off a few moments through out the film. Seems odd putting a known face in such a brief scene, which makes me wonder how much has been cut. Was hoping for a ton of deleted scenes.

I know I'll be doing some research first before deciding which country's UHD release I'm going to buy. I absolutely do not want a censored version. |

Yeah! Someone has put the ending on Youtube which is from the longer cut, and it has been trimmed. I'd also heard in a movie forum a while back someone mentioning the international version not being as violent. It might change for the home release ;0)

Yeah! It could be down to censorship in different countries. The two versions I've come across were trimmed, just thought it was worth a mention ;0)

Last Blood was awesome. Loved it. It's a different type of Rambo movie but being the 5th and supposedly final film and seeing the trailers I expected this to be different anyway. The trailers gave me a Logan vibe (which is my favourite Marvel film) and was a good sign where the movie would go.
It just goes for the jugular from the get go. Doesn't sugar coat anything and ramps up the violence ten fold. American reviews are just too political and sad in a way that they just can't enjoy anything without spraying their political views or assuming what Stallone's and the filmmakers views are. It's just sad and really pathetic and I just can't take them seriously at all. Great end to the series. |

Personally, I consider this a great and fitting end to the Rambo saga. Some people seem to forget the intimate story about a Vietnam veteran with PTSD that was First Blood. The entire Rambo series is about that battle hardened veteran not being able to avoid using his skills to protect those he cares about. While First Blood was about Rambo defending himself against the post-Vietnam, political paradigm, Part 2, 3, 4, and 5 are all actually revenge movies set during real-world conflicts. Part 2 he was sent back to Vietnam by bureaucrats that wanted to pretend there were no POW's left there, so Rambo fights off the Vietnamese and Russians alone while saving American troops. In 3, he only goes to Afghanistan to save his favorite Colonel, once again taking on the Russians. In 4 he fights the Burmese army to save Christian aid workers and repay them for their war crimes against civilians. At the end, we assume he will be at peace at home in Arizona. Unfortunately, the border is not without conflict either.
For the record, this movie is much more like Man On Fire than Taken (not just plot, but also in emotional weight). We now meet the only family John has left, but much like the Christian aid workers, she puts herself in harm's way despite warnings from Rambo. So now the Mexican Cartel has pissed Rambo off. This film is more like First Blood than the sequels because of the smaller scale warfare. Not only that, but it's a very personal tale. As far as the violence, some say it is over the top. I see it as a realistic reaction from a soldier with PTSD and a history of mass killing. They attacked him and his loved one. Consider his rage by the end of the movie in the context of a saga, and it makes sense that he embraces who he is, relishing the kills for himself. (And the long hair, let's be honest, it was looking kind of creepy in 4. Rambo did not want to take care of that mop anymore.) |

The Taken comparison makes me roll my eyes. A kidnapped family member has been an action movie staple since the 80s. And besides, this becomes a revenge movie in the final act. Man of Fire is a good shout as a comparison.
