So, looks like the film has been raised to a 12A, for some reason. Not sure if the new release will be the same or just the theatrical rerelease but hasn't it been a PG since like the beginning of time?

Looks like a fold-out digipak just like their other LE UHDs but yeah, some pics of that would be cool.

As pictured, it's still PG for video releases. Even when a film gets re-rated for theatrical release, it retains the original rating for future disc releases, unless something gets added (bonus features or trailers) that changes the rating.

Some information here:

https://bbfc.co.uk/releases/elephant-man-1980

Originally a 'AA' at the cinema (similar to a modern '15', only with the age bar set at 14).

Later a PG for home video. Reasons for that PG here:

https://bbfc.co.uk/case-studies/elephant-man

The first link suggests further details may be available after 3rd March.

The film has not been reclassified for the cinema since its initial 'AA' upon release, so a '12A' is more lenient. However, given the constant classification and re-classification as a PG for home video from 1987 to 2007, the fact that it is not now a PG for the cinema is of some surprise.

The runtime is 20 seconds longer than it was in 1980. Possibly for new logos, or notes on the restoration, but who knows.

For clarity, there is no '12A' certificate for home video.

I really hate these big bulky StudioCanal releases, but man is that set just gorgeous.

Pre-ordered.

Looking at the VAM package as classified by the BBFC, and no mention of NEW Interview with Frank Connor, Stills Photography or NEW BFI Q&A With Jonathan Sanger.

Yeah I'm thinking of going the same route given that there isn't an extra disk involved. I'm not normally a big steelbook buyer but I think they actually look best with simple designs like this with limited colours, the BFI Aguirre for example I think works very well too.

Just placed my pre-order through Zaavi for the Steelbook. Wasn't previously aware they shipped to the States.

The steelbook is £10 cheaper at the moment. So £10 for the book, cards and pop up packaging. Take your pick...

Just ordered the steelbook from Zaavi as well. At the moment Amazon.co.uk doesn't appear to be talking pre-orders.

Okay. I might bite even though I hate the ratings logos.

How is Zaavi with shipping? Padded in a box? I don’t know if I trust this in a bubble mailer coming to the US.

Woeful. That's not very promising. Although I did order three steelbooks from Zaavi going back three and four years ago. I don't remember the exact type of packaging they used, but all three orders came in pristine and damage free condition.

But I'll keep my fingers crossed, just the same, this time!

I ordered They Live &Prince of Darkness as part of a 2 for 30 and they arrived in Separate bubble mailers on two different days. I picked the cheapest shipping, so that might make a difference.
