One of the biggest problems with M:I 2 is that I have a hard time equating its Ethan Hunt with the Ethan Hunt of the first movie. It just seems like some other guy to me . You can jump around the other four movies and still feel that, yes, this is the same character - older, wiser, changed somewhat but still the Ethan Hunt of the original.

I always felt the same way about the 2nd one, even though I'm a Woo fanboy and found some entertainment along the way. I actually feel the same way currently about Fallen Kingdom, as those characters are NOT the same either.

It really does feel like some alternative universe MI movie, doesn't it? If Ethan actually woke up at the end and said "I just had the strangest dream!" then I'd be on board with that

I watched this last night and noticed the color changes in the final fight scene. Other than that the presentation was absolutely wonderful. The picture was just about pitch and the audio was flawless. I highly recommend this. In my top 3. A 4.5 out of 5.

Yeah, I think if I actually liked the movie in any way, shape or form I'd be pleased (though not overjoyed) with the UHD for the things it gets right, but as it is...oy vey.

Going to swallow down all 5 this week, but got to my copy of MI1 yesterday. The audio upgrade was fair to nice, did not impress me a whole hell of a lot. BUT..... The PQ is like seeing the film for the first time!! What a HUGE upgrade over the terrible BD release. I assume as the films go on and they are in better shape, the difference may not be as vast, but at least my impression of BD vs UHD so far is money well spent... Enjoy.

I watched mission impossible 2 as a young teenager and loved it. It was my first mission impossible film. I still love it.

I don’t funnily enough. I feel as though the Ethan from the 1st one changed because of the betrayal by Jim and he became a different agent because of that and it took him some time to find who he was again. Think of it like that. I do.

I finally watched the first two. I was just as impressed with the image as everyone else... my mind hasn't been changed about either movie. I really can't get the trashing of M:I 2 in this thread when it seems rock-solid plot-wise compared to the first movie. I guess people can focus on clouds, tires, and a scarf. Those are still lesser offenses to me than the complete lack of coherence in the first movie.

I guess the miracle of the first movie is that I still really, really like it despite it being non-sense. That almost never happens. It's certainly a De Palma movie and visually interesting - even more so on this UHD. But, talk about taking itself seriously and almost de-volving into parody.... I suspect John Woo's "woo-ishness" was too much for many in the second film (and are we talking about the last 20 minutes?) whereas De Palma's more understated approach helped make it seem like it was way more intelligent than it is. But, yeah - no pigeon flew out of the CIA HQ in slo-mo, I guess.

I don't know if this is the first time it popped into my mind (I hope not) or if I just forgot/missed the reason why, but
[Show spoiler] when Ethan breaks into Langley, why in the world doesn't he just take out the analyst when he's in the room? He just had no problem taking out a security guard. All of the security measures are de-activated when the analyst is in the room! At one point, Ethan is in the room right above him. Just knock him out and go! But, the best is that this room has the most "state of the art" security measures, but they couldn't afford video surveillance.

Of course, I also don't know why Ethan even needed to steel the list in the first place. Supposedly, Max had someone who could verify it (and they waited a LONG time to do that the first time), but how in the world would they know whether the names are real or not? A fake list obviously was working just fine the first time, so why not do it a second time?

Then there's the opening mission, which sure seems cool.... if you don't think about it at all.
[Show spoiler] There was another IMF team - nice twist and scene where Ethan shows off his powers of observation since he noticed them in the restaurant. But, how terrible were they? This was a mole hunt, they had a whole team on them, all of the killings (save one) take place on public streets in Prague and.... they caught none of it? Nobody was on Phelps? They obviously knew where the safe house was. Two agents were on Ethan and Sarah, but didn't witness Sarah's murder or see that Ethan obviously wasn't the mole? This isn't as dumb as the whole bible stuff - it just speaks to either Phelps' skills at shaking a tail on deserted Prague streets or the incompetence of the IMF.

I mean, really - there is practically nothing in the first movie that makes any sense. It looks good, though!

If you like MI:2 that’s okay. Everyone has a right to be wrong.

Nope. I love MI:2 just as much as I love Speed 2: Cruise Control, which is in my top 10.

The best thing I can say about Mi2 is that it is better than Speed 2 or MiB2, if only slightly.

His 90s stuff was pure class, his newer stuff I think is terrible.
Lorne Balfe needs to step up his game.
