One of the biggest problems with M:I 2 is that I have a hard time equating its Ethan Hunt with the Ethan Hunt of the first movie. It just seems like some other guy to me

I watched this last night and noticed the color changes in the final fight scene. Other than that the presentation was absolutely wonderful. The picture was just about pitch and the audio was flawless. I highly recommend this. In my top 3. A 4.5 out of 5.

Going to swallow down all 5 this week, but got to my copy of MI1 yesterday. The audio upgrade was fair to nice, did not impress me a whole hell of a lot. BUT..... The PQ is like seeing the film for the first time!! What a HUGE upgrade over the terrible BD release. I assume as the films go on and they are in better shape, the difference may not be as vast, but at least my impression of BD vs UHD so far is money well spent... Enjoy.

I finally watched the first two. I was just as impressed with the image as everyone else... my mind hasn't been changed about either movie. I really can't get the trashing of M:I 2 in this thread when it seems rock-solid plot-wise compared to the first movie. I guess people can focus on clouds, tires, and a scarf. Those are still lesser offenses to me than the complete lack of coherence in the first movie.
I guess the miracle of the first movie is that I still really, really like it despite it being non-sense. That almost never happens. It's certainly a De Palma movie and visually interesting - even more so on this UHD. But, talk about taking itself seriously and almost de-volving into parody.... I suspect John Woo's "woo-ishness" was too much for many in the second film (and are we talking about the last 20 minutes?) whereas De Palma's more understated approach helped make it seem like it was way more intelligent than it is. But, yeah - no pigeon flew out of the CIA HQ in slo-mo, I guess. I don't know if this is the first time it popped into my mind (I hope not) or if I just forgot/missed the reason why, but [Show spoiler] Then there's the opening mission, which sure seems cool.... if you don't think about it at all. [Show spoiler] I mean, really - there is practically nothing in the first movie that makes any sense. It looks good, though! |
