1. I doubt Shout would release all 3 cuts on 4K. 2. The market is already been saturated with a VERY affordable end all be all edition. 3. Shout hasn't really been doing much in the extras outside of a slight few, and some commentaries. I am one of the biggest Dawn Fans around, short of them coming up with the alternate ending (which still is debated if it was even filmed), why would I buy an inferior edition. I'm asking legitimately, I just can't see it being worth paying the money for, when most people who want it, already have it. At this point, it'd be a net negative. If anything, they should persue the 3hr B&W Martin. At least that is something different. |

Second Sight's release of Dawn of the Dead is definitive.

While that is true,
1. No one is releasing 3D movies to disc in the US (maybe 1 or 2, F13th 3 being the last one in recent memory.) 2. That is not George's vision, it's a money grubber scumbag's vision. If we go by that metric, SS's release doesn't include the Extended Mall Hours Cut. |

Wasn't sure what I was going to watch tonight, but now I think I might go with my totally awesome SS version of Dawn of the Dead while I gear up for Arrow's Enemy Territory in a few weeks

I personally don't have issue with the PQ of the Second Sight version, but I did some complaining over it, so I guess Shout could improve on it? Believe it or not a lot of people don't import which for whatever reason seems to confuse some people here like SeanJoyce for. It would still sell, I can promise you that. |

Shout is never going to beat out the PQ/Encoding done by SS. It's been proven time and time again. Would it sell, yes. Would it recoup the insane cost RR is demanding, nope. You can disagree, but the facts stand against you. Unless RR dies, it aint happening, and if it does, it's never recouping the cost, and will NEVER be as exhaustive as SS 4 and 7 disc sets. |

People are hateful of Shout that they don't notice the quality of their work. Their recent encodes are all fantastic. I just watched the Jet Li set and man, I would have thought it was encoded by one of the "better" labels like Radiance. Again, anything is possible and I would argue just the physical rights would net them a profit. If they can get streaming? Well, then everything is limitless. |

I actually talked to someone who worked with Rubinstein for the theatrical run of Dawn of the Dead that happened a couple of years ago and he basically said something similar. He lives in a mansion and is pretty much cut off from reality and reason. He's basically a madman, and no idea how Second Sight was able to appease him long enough to make things happen. He's getting old though, but who knows, he could live to 100.

The SS Dawn has region B blu, a big hurdle for US folks. I ripped it to watch cuz I love special features, but a lot of stores have big disclaimers about that set being the wrong region.
A US release would sell. |

Plus this is also about streaming rights. Dawn should be available that method too yet it isn't and thats a shame. It's vital 70s horror film that pushed the genre and zombie subgenre to new lengths. |

So I'm running my mouth since I don't know anything about streaming rights, etc.
I don't see a significant profit for Shout to license DoD to stream (in addition to the disk release). So is the argument that Shout would get the rights, then license the streaming to Max or Peacock (just for example) and recoup some of the cost? Obviously, they could get a decent amount back, but would it be that significant? If you're the Max person in charge of buying streaming rughts, what difference does Dawn/Dead make in the sea of everything else? Would there be a significant measurable boost in subscriptions just because of that one movie? So I think the problem with this theory is that Shout (or anyone) isn't expecting a big windfall from streaming. It's some extra money, but not enough to offset the presumably high licencing costs. But like I said, I don't know how this works. I just feel logically, the streaming rights to a single movie wouldn't move the needle for Max, Peacock, Apple, etc. |
