I do agree that it loses steam after that moment but

Just a question. I have noticed recently that TT's own page is missing quite a few releases that used to be there, especially some of their more recent ones. I am looking at getting Hawaii, but it is no longer listed on their site. Does that mean TT sold out their share and SA is the only one who still has the rest?

I also missed Hawaii, but I believe they'll get re-stocked, since it's a newer title & the stock should still be plenty.

And ironically it was apparently those courtroom scenes that got the movie abruptly pulled from distribution and buried for a few years after a threatened libel suit (I think it was Count Alfred de Marigny, who was tried for and acquitted of the murder of Harry Oakes, who threatened to sue over the Rutger Hauer character being obviously based on him, though it may have been Oakes' daughter).

Maybe it has been somewhere in this thread but i havent seen it, Why do some have Blue clear cases and some have clear cases? thanks

TT started out with the standard blue Blu-ray cases but eventually switched over to the clear cases for their new releases early last year.

I caved in recently and bought a bunch of clear cases from their website so my entire TT collection is in the clear cases. I think I have close to 70 TT BDs, so it was a mass quantity of cases. But I figured I can use all of the blue cases that were being replaced as my replacement cases in the future, so why the hell not?

I did the same myself but only had about 20 or so to replace.

I just realized that The Disappearance was on the sale list, but they did not change the price until later in the day of the first day of the sale, so when I was going through my first time, I just assumed that it was not in the sale. And now stock is gone. Perhaps it will come back.

I just placed my first order for this sale and I immediately got a confirmation email, and then right after that another email that said "status changed -- awaiting fulfillment." I'm wondering, is this normal (this is my first order with Twilight Time) or does it mean that they don't have those films in stock and they are waiting for their stock to be replenished from the warehouse?

Anyway, this is my modest haul:

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner: Another Stanley Kramer "message" picture, the story seems dated now but I bought it for the two leads, Katherine Hepburn and, especially, Spencer Tracy.

The World of Henry Orient: A delightful love letter to New York City in the 60's (at least the Upper East Side), it features just-right performances by the two juvenile leads, just enough Peter Sellers, and fine supporting turns by Paula Prentiss, Angela Lansbury, and Tom Boswell.

The St. Valentine's Day Massacre: This one is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love the over-the-top performances and the docudrama narration by Paul Frees. I used to love watching this movie on TV when I was a kid and can't wait to see it in high def.

Through my experiences with their website, that's normal. TT sends out 3 emails... order confirmation, awaiting fulfillment, and the shipping notification.

Not sure why this has to be a guilty pleasure. Yes, Jason Robards as Al Capone is the single biggest miscasting of all time (okay, John Wayne as Genghis Khan probably takes that title but this is a close runner-up), but this is a supremely entertaining and to date the most accurate cinematic rendition of the people and events surrounding February 14th, 1929.

I bought it for Hepburn. And Tracy. And Poitier. But also because I love Kramer's "message" films. But I disagree that the story seems dated now. I mean, I can understand it seeming dated now in that interracial relationships and marriages aren't that big a deal now. But marriage equality in the more general is as important an issue today as it was in the 1960s.

Well, I would distinguish between movies that are historical and movies that are topical. A movie such as Gone With the Wind is historical. A movie such as Guess Who's Coming to Dinner was very topical at the time of its release and the inter-racial element was the main thing that people focused on then. Now, that part of the film seems almost quaint as viewed through today's perspective where that's not such a big deal. That's the risk with basing movie in topical events -- sometimes today's news becomes old news fast. What doesn't age is the relationships between the characters. It's a long time since I've seen GWCTD, so I'll reserve further comment until I see it again.

I agree that you have to take movies in terms of the times they were made in. For instance, even Gone With the Wind would be different if made today. The glossing over of slavery and the depiction of the slaves certainly wouldn't fly today.
