I liked it at the time--mostly I remembered the Iguanas with the glued-on prosthetics, and then the lava chute thing at the end.

Watching it this time I thought it was incredibly tedious. James Mason is great as ever, but Pat Boone was wooden and the movie's pace was (if you'll forgive the pun) glacial.

Perhaps it's just that the pace of movies has changed; perhaps it's just that I'm not 8. Dunno. But I made a decent sale of it.
For me, Journey is one of those movies I remember going to see over and over again in the theater as a child. (For all I know I might have been 8 at the time too. ) It's a little difficult for me to view with an entirely open mind these days, because of the huge impression it made on me at the time. But for whatever reason, I still love it today ... same goes for many other films of that era including the other 2 you mentioned.

Canada NEW Pre-Order & Release Dates

Friday, Jan 18th:
  • Pony Soldier
  • In Like Flint
  • Nicholas and Alexandra
Release date: Tuesday, Feb 12th
___________________________

Friday, Feb 15th:
  • The Fury
  • Christine
Release date: Tuesday, March 12th
___________________________

Friday, March 1st:
  • The Song of Bernadette
Release date: Tuesday, March 26th
___________________________

Hmmm...is that pre-order for The Song of Bernadette at the beginning of the month a sign of more staggered releases in 2013? If TT continues to release 3 titles some months, then I would welcome that pre-order spacing.

I guess I take a different view considering SAEs high shipping costs. Keeping the pre-orders together saves when ordering that month's releases, which I always do. If they start this, then I will be holding off until I can order all of my pre-orders at once.

Also, for the three release months, ordering all three together means SAE ships in a box instead of those flimsy craptastic envelopes.

I was thinking the same exact thing on all accounts...

Cannot wait to order In Like Flint on January 18th. The plot is a bit more convoluted then in Our Man Flint, but Coburn is still great.

All good points oildude. In fact, I tend to order from SAE in quantities that will guarantee a box as well...especially desirable for safe cross-border transit. On the other hand, I'm glad that The Song of Bernadette, which was originally slated to accompany Major Dundee mid-March, is being released when it is ready rather than arbitrarily being held back another couple of weeks.

Perhaps in this case TT simply figures that this title will be a hot draw leading up to Easter, and want to ensure buyers get it before the holiday. I just thought it was interesting that TT's mid-month pre-order date doesn't seem to be cast in stone anymore.

Interesting cover for Nicholas and Alexandra. An artistic rendition of the coat of arms of the Romanovs - double headed eagle with orb in one claw and a sceptre in the other, all beneath three crowns - overlaid by blood stains in the shape of the hammer and sickle. The coat of arms also appears to be unravelling and decayed, and resembles an outline of the tsarina Alexandra. Visually interesting and effective, if you understand the symbolism.

It is striking oildude, one of TT's best. And I caught all of the symbolism there except that part about the "outline of the tsarina". For some reason I'm not seeing that element...what am I missing?

I dunno if I can describe it to where you can see it, but look at the coat of arms - the feathers (wings) resemble the skirt of a ballroom dress, the extended ribbons representing the arms, the abstractly rendered eagles' necks and heads and smaller crowns forming the hour-glass shaped head and bosom beneath the larger crown, and legs formed by the claws holding the orb and sceptre. Granted, it is all abstract and bizarrely contorted, but the fact that it is an artistic interpretation of the imperial symbol makes it jump right out at me.

EDIT: also, the two smaller crowns represent her shoulders, if that helps.

Here is a drawing of the imperial coat of arms of the Romanovs.

The mounted figure on the shield is St. George slaying the dragon.

The tsar's official title was oten shortened as Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias. However, his full official title was:

[Show spoiler]We, Nicholas the Second, by the grace of God, Emperor and Autocrat of all the Russias, of Moscow, Kiev, Vladimir, Novgorod, Tsar of Kazan, Tsar of Astrakhan, King of Poland, Tsar of Siberia, Tsar of Tauric Chersonesos, Tsar of Georgia, Lord of Pskov, and Grand Duke of Smolensk, Lithuania, Volhynia, Podolia, and Finland, Prince of Estonia, Livonia, Courland and Semigalia, Samogitia, Białystok, Karelia, Tver, Yugra, Perm, Vyatka, Bulgaria, and other territories; Lord and Grand Duke of Nizhny Novgorod, Chernigov; Ruler of Ryazan, Polotsk, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Beloozero, Udoria, Obdoria, Kondia, Vitebsk, Mstislav, and all northern territories; Ruler of Iveria, Kartalinia, and the Kabardinian lands and Armenian territories; hereditary Ruler and Lord of the Cherkess and Mountain Princes and others; Lord of Turkestan, Heir of Norway, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, Stormarn, Dithmarschen, Oldenburg, and so forth, and so forth, and so forth.

I got my shipping email for Experiment in Terror and Our Man Flint as well.

Speaking of Our Man Flint, I like the cover for In Like Flint. I like that they made the effort to have them match.

This is my first order from them, but don't they usually ship early so it arrives at least by the release date? That is what I assumed when I put in my order.

My first order too, so that does make sense to me--that's most likely what they have done.

Ahhh...I see it now oildude. When compared with the actual Romanov crest you can see the stylized departures creating that figure...obviously intentional.

TT's first Rorschach test. Cool.
