But even if TT does end up doing at least some of those titles, I think it's just as likely they could surface via an arrangement similar to TT's deal with Fox for At Long Last Love...a co-production kind of thing where TT just handles the domestic distribution via SAE. Since all of these are pretty high profile award-winning Columbia/TriStar titles, there was never any guarantee that TT would get to do them anyway...or even more to the point, would want to do them. I mean, nothing in that list really excites me in terms of IST possibilities. Truth be, I don't care if I go to my grave never hearing the ditties from Guess Who's Coming To Dinner and The Way We Were again. In the long run, I suspect it will be better for the depth of collector interest in Twilight Time if they don't get bogged down with too many of these near-recent, more mainstream appeal Sony titles anyway. We need more Experiment in Terror, Nicholas and Alexandra, and Major Dundee ...even Lost Horizon. And less Steel Magnolias and As Good As It Gets. Heck, the former seem to be outpacing the latter in sales to boot. I mean, the only 80s/90s Sony titles that have had any significant traction so far are those with a dedicated Horror/Fantasy fanbase anyway. So what does it matter if TT has a gorgeous Sony 4k master of a catalogue title that lacks powerful fan and collector 'hooks' - that certain 'je ne sais quoi'? None of those pictures announced for the German market really jumps out as warranting TT's showcase collector treatment. Nice movies, even very nice, but...no recurring mystery...no compelling allure...just not my flavour of soda pop... ![]() Last edited by ROclockCK; 02-23-2013 at 06:35 PM. |

So I say let Sony do all that mainstream mid-tier catalogue stuff themselves, taking it overseas if they can't be bothered with a domestic Blu-ray release. I mean, not every old movie, however well made or remastered, needs this niche label's support...or by extension, ours. Especially with so many other neglected gems in both studio's catalogues much more deserving of rediscovery and reappreciation via TT's showcase collector treatment. |

TT doesn't have to release China Syndrome I only mentioned it because it was mentioned on a previous post for an upcoming European BLU release this year.
On the films score side note I own the Intrada CD and it sold out in a few days when it was released. http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.6011/.f Last edited by PowellPressburger; 02-23-2013 at 08:09 PM. |

![]() After a little investigation though, I see that there was a Michael Small score for The China Syndrome which was never used. So I take it back; that would be a very interesting supplement if TT did run with it. |

As I admitted many, many moons ago oildude, even if TT somehow managed to double or triple their output, that would still be barely drops in the bucket for the Fox and Sony catalogues.
I welcome any titles that TT has cherry-picked for presentation quality and retrospective cult film appeal, especially those with underated/underappreciated scores. But for more mainstream titles without such collector 'hooks', TT's unique added value seems kind of wasted. Last edited by ROclockCK; 02-23-2013 at 08:35 PM. |
