No doubt about that at all lemonski...I couldn't even find evidence of a legit panned & scanned VHS edition of Rapture, and during the tape era almost everything received at least one release, even if limited to rentals-only. So you can't get much more MIA than that!

I'll venture to guess that 99% of the people who bought Rapture bought it as a blind buy. I certainly never had the opportunity to see the film before this release.

Something about the site description of Rapture caused a blip on my radar. I think that, for some reason, the premise made me think of René Clément's Forbidden Games, and I saw that as a good thing, since offbeat older movies along those lines usually reverberate with me.

I like the cinematic oddities that do not readily fall into any genre. I mean, don't get me wrong, because I love my James Bond collection above all, but the strange standouts like Rapture are priceless as well.

Sorry if this has been answered (I'm sure it has), but I'm not dedicated enough to go through 101 pages. Are these ever available for less than $30? Any coupon codes, or B1G1 sales or anything like that?

Short answer: No. Long answer: SAE used to have a coupon code years ago where if you bought through their Amazon store and were a new customer, they would give you 10% off your next order if made directly through their site. But that stopped around when the magnets stopped.

The only other "sale" is when they have a special signed edition which you can get free if you order more than $100 in Twilight Time product, but there are only 100 of those that come out on a preorder date (150 on this coming Wednesday's preorder!).

Wow! I was an idiot who had it on my Wishlist for months and then suddenly it was gone. I was considering getting it for $64 from Amazon but again procrastinated.

Same here had it in my wish list, I wasn't expecting it to sell out now I'm glad a i had another chance. I think it's when TT has those sales with the autograph copies that make other slow movers suddenly jump to low levels, I expect the Driver, Hard Times, and Leave Her to heaven will be almost sold out next week with the promotion coming with 150 signed copies of THE DISAPPEARANCE (1977) signed by Stuart Cooper.

I've just always been a sucker for the peculiar beauty of 'Scope in monochrome (e.g. Jack Clayton's The Innocents), and was pretty much sold via caps such as this:







Come to think of it The Great Owl, this might also explain the previous absence of Rapture on home video, even during the VHS era...I mean, how do you effectively pan & scan shots like that? You'd have to scrunch the titles, and pan across or cut between the edge-to-edge extremes of each frame. So films like this aren't merely more enjoyable in high-def...it's hard to imagine them making much story/character sense or evoking an emotional response visually when presented any other way.

FYI... TT just made a deal with a company I can't name yet, for 50-60 titles... so expect 4-5 releases a month in 2014. And yes, still limited to 3000.

It's definitely good. TT is the only independent company besides Criterion putting out quality catalog titles. Olive - cheap. Mill Creek - cheap.

They have some great movies planned, I can't wait to get them.

That's not true at all. Cohen Media, Synapse, Kino (usually), Flicker Alley, Vinegar Syndrome all do excellent work. And that's only the US labels - what about MoC, BFI, Arrow, Second Sight, Artificial Eye, 88 Films, etc.?
