Olive titles can be had for about $16 shipped from http://www.importcds.com. If you are patient you can even get better deals. For example, I just bought a few from DeepDiscount in a sale last week $14 each, even for the new releases (spend $25 and you get free shipping with them).

For a long time, some people - including me - bought into the unfounded "fact" (rumor) started by a few here that the 3000 limit was due to something called the "magazine rate" for artist's residuals, which is small runs of around 3000 and no other payouts for royalties, etc. The magazine rate as a basis isn't true at all, as it turns out, and TT had never claimed it as a reason anyway. Just more internet babble passed along as actual knowledge.

As rock, stone points out, TT has definitely upped their game in terms of effort from a year ago. I am grateful we are getting many of these catalog films released in high definition. Rapture is what made me a fan. I have every TT blu-ray release to date (a streak that will come to an end with Mindwarp, however). But it is two years later, and I am not drinking the kool-aid any more. Artificially limiting the market for many of these films to an arbitrary 3000 for three years is what rubs many people the wrong way. And they have legitimate reasons for expressing their concerns about TT while still being fans of the films. They don't deserve to be pounced on by TT fanatics with statements like they are just a bunch of whiners because these won't be $10 in a few months.

TT is a small company bringing us great catalog films, and I will continue to support them. I will support any company delivering a quality product of the classic films I love. But TT is not doing anything particularly special. Olive would do just as good a job with the transfers if Sony were working with them, or Shout, or Image, or whoever. Ultimately, the fault is with Sony USA for choosing to hand over many titles which have a fan base far beyond 3000 units for three years.
C'mon, why break the streak of collecting all the TT titles this far in? You're saying that you enjoy all of the other TT releases equally the same? I've never seen Mindwarp but I will be getting it eventually, I am too far invested into the TT line now...

Obviously, Sony has no interest in releasing it themselves, otherwise why would they offer it to Twilight Time in the first place? The fact is, the decision makers over at Sony like Twilight Time, and their business model.

Not much you can do, unless you want to grab the UK version. Incidentally, the UK BD actually comes out before the TT release, and the preorder price is pretty sweet.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oliver-Blu-ray/dp/B00BAQZFHG?SubscriptionId=AKIAIY4YSQJMFDJATNBA&tag =bluraycom-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creative ASIN=B00BAQZFHG&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
I wasn't saying Sony actually used all of them (though they have used some of them); I was merely suggesting companies that do not limit their releases to 3,000 copies each initially sold only thru the distributor itself. Even low-end distributors like Echo Bridge or Mill Creek are likely to make more copies and achieve wider distribution, even though their product will likely be of lesser quality than TT.

And yes, I was aware of the UK release; I myself have said I'll probably buy that one instead of the TT version. Indeed, the fact that Sony is releasing these titles itself overseas suggests they have some interest in them.

My point still stands: Obscure older releases like The Egyptian are perfect candidates for the TT model; they might not be on home video at all if not for TT. Newer, better-known catalog titles likely to generate at least some demand should NOT be shipped off to TT just because some studio accountant thinks they can make more money by artificially limiting the U.S. release to a 3,000-copy exclusive at over $30 a pop from a little-known website (or its Amazon Marketplace listing). And though you & I know Oliver! is coming out in the UK at a relatively low price, how many other North Americans who would buy it at that price know they can get it from there???

Doesn't work for me.

I had 15 Twilight Time titles in my basket last night but now can't place my order. So much for getting them this week.

Yeah, it's not working for me either. The homepage comes up, but any link on the website takes me to an error page or a renew domain page.

EDIT: the other pages work if you remove the "www." from the front of each page (e.g. http://www.screenarchives.com/cart.cfm doesn't work but screenarchives.com/cart.cfm does). Weird.

Weird. It's working fine for me, clicked on 5 or so links on the main page and all loaded fine.

Yes, but if you hate that Sony and Fox are doing that, then there must be a bit of residual criticism towards TT otherwise you wouldn't hate that they're doing that. I'm happy that TT has been able to release such titles as the Driver and the Flint movies and, soon, the Harryhausen Sinbads because they are all "must owns" for me. In those instances, the print point is NOT an issue for me but I would certainly have purchased many more "lesser" TT titles if they were cheaper. The main issue for me is availability for people. I can see how frustrating it would be if I were a blu-ray newbie who loves 80s horror and discovered that the only blu-ray releases for Fright Night and Christine were some OOP limited edition titles that are going for hundreds of dollars on E-Bay. Whether it's online or B&M stores, I'm all about everything being available to everyone and knowing I would have to wait at least 2 years just for the possibility that a re-release would be in the offering would be annoying. If TT could shed a little light on what their intentions are for such titles would at least provide a glimmer of hope for fans.

Fresh from the Screen Archives Website:

This morning a large band of severe thunderstorms moved through the area and caused outages and problems with not only our internet provider, but also the Screen Archives and FSM websites When the system was restored, we were unable to connect to our remote severs. There will be another temporary hiccup on Wednesday when we upgrade equipment to insure that we don't have this problem again.
