Here's an interesting snippet from the latest interview. I know it's been previously mentioned that TT would possibly release up to 6 titles a month but it appears that will become standard practice by mid-2014.

Two Years Ago: We more or less picked 3000 out of the air when we pitched the limited catalog cds back in the 90s and when the time came to start Twilight Time we decided to stick with the same number. The Devil you know and all that.

Today: The 3000 number is solidly based on painstaking studio maket research.

Prediction: within a year we're going to hear or read in an interview that Fox and Sony actually initiated all this by coming to them with the idea for 3000 unit run limited editions.

Redman's quite the chameleon.

Well with the MGM deal, that gives them a lot of material to draw on, let alone whatever stuff they still get offered by Sony and Fox.

lol, if you've kept up with other forums and reading between the lines, Redman is a bit of a douchey guy. just notice how he treated BR.com with the review copies. it's kinda obvious they have an ego problem

Redman has been very consistent on why TT has a 3000 set limit as it goes back to his days of releasing limited edition soundtracks. It makes good business sense as it has allowed TT to grow and expand over the past 3 years or so.

A number decided in the 1990s. For soundtracks. Before internet commerce went mainstream.

The vast majority of TT's titles have yet to sell out which would indicate 3000 was the appropriate number to use even if it is a holdover from the nineties. Looking through SAE's site I see a good many soundtracks limited to 3000 or less so it's more than just some antiquated limit from a bygone era.

When a studio chops down a director's cut, you don't blame the director. You blame the party responsible. Same deal here. Stop trying to make it a TT issue, just because you have some beef with their business model.

Jeez, is anybody really going to shell out ~$190 every month for 6 measly blu-rays? I only ask, because I know there are a few folks 'round here that enjoy collecting TT releases.

I know nothing of Mill Creek except that they have the rights to release Birdy (no set date yet). Is that bad news for the film's fans?

No it's pretty good, it means that more than 3000 people can buy it whenever they want and at a reasonable price. Don't worry Mill Creek won't be doing the transfer.....just like Twilight Time.

Mill creek is another 3rd party licensor, just like TT. the only difference between Mill Creek and TT is that Mill Creek doesn't limit the quantity to 3000, actually sells them in retail stores AND has great prices on their films. basically I'm saying that TT tries to justify Criterion prices, at a limited amount, and only sold on like 2 obscure niche websites, when they don't do anymore work than Mill Creek does.

now don't get me wrong. TT started out pretty decent with a mission to bring REALLY obscure titles to light that even back in the DVD days were considered poor sellers. A real niche market where they could use their small staff size and bring out some gems to light. but now the studios have been courting them and giving them bigger and bigger name stuff and TT has been eating it up. In some ways I don't blame them, because who doesn't like profit, but the studios + TT's appetite has outgrown their 3000 limit fanbase and THAT is what's chapping people's asses. they seem content to charge premium prices for something that really is no better than Echo Bridge or TT in terms of effort (besides a fancy magnet)... the only thing "special" about TT products are the self imposed 3000 title limit and the fact that they only sell out of SAE and now TCM
