Well, I noticed that Screen Archives is selling Resurrected on Amazon and tried the inventory trick. I was able to add 999 copies to my cart, so clearly this is a slow seller.

This is actually being sold by some third party seller called Price Clock, at a jacked up price. So I kinda doubt they over 999 copies to sell.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right thread, but since TT has been releasing so many Ray Harryhausen films, it seems like an okay place.

Since Jason and the Argonauts is now OOP, what do you think the chances are that Sony will release it again themselves? The way Sony has been farming out so many of their titles, I have my doubts. If they don't, I'm curious to know what your thoughts are if it were to fall into TT's hands to be released with a new 4K restoration? Being that it's my favorite Harryhausen movie, I'd love it! It would be so sad if JatA were to become totally unavailable to buy again.

(Or do you think if Sony isn't interested anymore, that it could be re-released by TT as is [without any 4K restoration], after being available to the public so cheaply and for so long before going OOP?)

It will probably go to mill creek like the movies in sony's box set seem to have. I doubt TT would be able to sell thousands of copies when the movie was so widely available for cheap for so long (and is still easy to find in stores).

Zardoz new release date is April 14. It will be available for pre-order same time as the other April releases (March 25 @ 4pm EST).

I have updated the first post accordingly.

when did that happen?!?! I kept putting off buying that title because it was a release from a major studio, so I just assumed it would always be available. The only studio I knew that let things go OOP was Paramount, and that got fixed once they gave their distribution rights to Warner.

Ugh, now all the retailers seem to be out of it, except ones that are charging $40+.

Sales numbers for JASON were surprisingly small, so I would be highly surprised if Sony chose to re-release it. I would think the best chance of that happening would (unfortunately) be as part of a cheap multi-film pack, released without any sort of care when it comes to bit-rate, compression, etc.

I would LOVE to see a deluxe edition, but I would be shocked if it happened. I just hope TT put out GULLIVER and an uncut ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. And I hope Warner Archives sees fit to put out GWANGI, BEAST and MIGHTY JOE YOUNG. Those seem like ideal films for Warner's niche BluRay program.

When it comes to classic movies on Blu, it's best to just buy titles that you know you want when they are released, and not assume anything's going to be available for a long time. Stuff goes OOP all the time without any fanfare whatsoever. Pretty much only blockbuster titles get repressed anymore. Or, depending on the company, titles with an initial small print run, with the idea that more will be pressed if sales are more brisk than expected.

The only place I can think of where you might find Jason... at its original cost is at a local Barnes & Noble, if they still have one on their shelf.

(FWIW, I think I first read about Jason... going OOP maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago, in one of the threads in these forums. I'm not sure when the event actually happened).

Default Jason and the Argonauts

For the record, I bought the Ray Harryhausen Collection (20 Million Miles to Earth, Earth vs. Flying Saucers, It Came from Beneath the Sea, and 7th Voyage of Sinbad) and Jason and the Argonauts from two different Amazon Marketplace sellers last June. I don't recall if I jumped on getting them because I heard they were OOP, or heard rumors that they would be soon.

Probably the latter, as at the time, I paid $10.97 for Jason and $34.99 for the boxed set. Shipping was free, so they were most likely fulfilled by Amazon (I have Prime).

I already had the Harryhausen dvd set with the free Ymir, but bought the Blu-ray set which included JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS on half.com for $22.98 plus $2.99 shipping in November. It was listed on half.com for weeks before I bought it because the prices on Amazon were starting to climb. Four Blu-ray movies for under $26 for an out-of-print set was a good deal.

That set doesn't have jason and the argonauts in it, so if you want it you better go find it quick!

People must be getting it confused with The 7th Voyage of Sinbad when it comes to the set, I was thinking the same thing until I looked it up. Fortunately, I got both the set and the single Argonauts, previously bought 7th Voyage on its own but sold it after I picked up the set.

Now I have a hankering to watch Jason and the Argonauts...

You guys are correct---the Harryhausen Blu-ray collection includes THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD. I also bought Harryhausen's Blu-rays of JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS and CLASH OF THE TITANS individually at about the same time which caused the confusion.
I like JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS a lot more than THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD which probably influenced my mistake.
