Sony Pictures The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event (2028)

In a move that ought to make fans of The Beatles twist and shout, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes and his Neal Street Productions have set plans to make four separate theatrical films, one on each of the members of music’s most famous and enduring band.

Mendes will direct all four of the films, and this marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.

Me

But seriously all the nasty stuff will be filtered out by the estates and the remaining two. So probably a bit wimpy in the end.

I'd rather we get four different films about four different "stages" of the band, from beginning to end, but I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

Maybe combine the ideas, every film a different stage of the band through a different Beatle's perspective?

Don’t forget Eric Clapton, plus numberous other guest musicians as well. But regardless there is only person rightly acknowledged as the gift abeatle and that is George Martin. Sutcliffe / Pete Best at a distance and no one else even on the map

I've told family, friends and even acquaintances that I've had dinner with a Beatle. Pete Best about 15 years ago was going around America and people organized dinner with him and his brothers. Cost 100 and you needed at least 5 to 6 people for it to happen and we also split the cost of the dinner so Pete and his brothers ate free.

We ate at Buca di Beppo in Encino, family style.

Pete signed anything you put in front of him. I had him sign The Decca Demos, Savage Young Beatles and In The Beginning. We also took photos and I videoed the entire dinner.

It was great! Pete and his brothers were great and we heard some great stories.

I'm glad Pete got his long delayed payday when the Anthology came out.

I will, one of the greatest drummers in rock n roll.

A lefty who played the drums as a righty which is why he had weird fills and and a unique drumming style.

Ringo played to the song not show off his skills. Ticket to Ride, Tomorrow Never Knows, Come Together, just incredible drumming. He was the perfect drummer for The Beatles.

Before any rock star decided to record an album of standards [Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Rod Stewart] Ringo did it first with Sentimental Journey.

Conceptually, I really dig this since the Beatles are one of those bands where each member is worthy of a film each.
I just don't know if this will work completely as well as they hope.

Mendes has recovered nicely after his Bond stint so I'll watch anything he does, as long as he's challenging himself like he has been lately.

If these are a success, the studios will try to milk every last penny out of the concept that they can and follow up with Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best movies.

The Beatles are getting the big-screen biopic treatment in not just one film, but a Fab Four of movies that will give each band member their own spotlight — all of which are to be directed by Sam Mendes.

For the first time, the Beatles, long among the stingiest rights granters, are giving full life and music rights to a movie project. Sony Pictures announced Monday a deal that may dwarf all music biopics that have come before it, with the stories of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr spread out over a quartet of films.

The films, conceived by Mendes, are expected to roll out theatrically in innovative fashion, with the movies potentially coexisting or intersecting in theaters. Precise release plans will be announced at a later date. Sony is targeting 2027 for their release.

McCartney, Starr and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have all signed off on the project through the band’s Apple Corps. Ltd. Sony Music Publishing controls the rights to the majority of Beatles songs.

Are well talking docs, or proper films with actors playing the four mop-tops? If it's the second...include me out.

The blurb says "In a move that ought to make fans of The Beatles twist and shout".

Every single Beatles fan I've met IRL knows ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING there is to know about The Beatles. That's just how Beatles fans are.

I'm not a huge fan and even I've got a book called The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions which details everything they did anytime they went into the studio.

It seems like a giant waste of time and money especially (as others have pointed out) all the juicy stuff will be left out.

I'm admittedly the biggest pain-in-the-ass gatekeeper when it comes to these guys.

Never really been interested in narrative films about them.

And there's plenty of real footage of them and massive and great docs and books and so forth.

I doubt I'll be that interested.

But if it keeps some younger people interested or discovering the music, that's good, I suppose.
