The Spain v Portugal match looked stunning on BBC UHD I have to say. When I went back to regular HD channel afterwards it looked like old standard def.
Match was a good 'un too.

Quality match last night between Portugal & Spain, this is what we want to see, not no 5-0 blowout.

Still not a 0-0,long may it continue.
I’ve made a few quid too with a draw in the Spain game and Griezmann to score/France to win.

We saw the first use of VAR today in the game France v Australia the ref got the decision right to award the penalty to Griezmann but he delayed making the decision to use VAR.
Australia did well they worked hard today and made it difficult for France by keeping their shape and having men behind the ball but they got their reward by the handball by Umtiti in the box and Australia to score from the penalty.

Wow, just watched the France game in VR, incredible! you have three views, behind either goal or up in the stands (the middle of the stadium) and the game experience is mind blowing. Once we get to second generation with improved visuals, wireless and possibly 5G support, this could be a game changer. Concerts , live theatre, football, American football, baseball, basketball, boxing, snooker etc.

If VR doesn’t get beyond niche and we miss out on this stuff it will be one of the greatest losses in tech of all time.

Well done to Iceland great defensive display and work rate to keep out a poor and slow Argentina who along with Messi didn't offer anything today.

Does Messi ever really show up like you'd expect him to in the World Cup?

I never expected Messi or Argentina to show up even though they were runners up in the last World Cup they still played with a slow pace passing game with no impact from Messi again.
They depend too much him on and don't have a plan B if you like to break down teams like we saw today against Iceland and that will be their downfall again.

Iceland may be considered minnows, mainly due to their low population, but they’re a solid side. The fact they’ve now qualified for two major championships in a row (something most UK sides fail to do), plus have played well in both those tournaments, proves it.
It certainly puts the win over England two years ago in the Euros into more perspective. It seemed a shock at the time, but not so much now.

I don't know how Peru lost that game to Denmark the amount of chances they created and wasted at the same time they were strong and quick going forward but still ended up losing it.

I was saying the same thing today, I mean it will remain an all-time embarrassment on England's record but it really has been given some context by Iceland's continued success. Can only laugh at Messi choking on the big stage once again. Ronny 3, Messi 0.

That penalty for Croatia, I don't think the ref needed the VAR for that one

It was the kind of move that should have been accompanied by Gorilla Monsoon commentary.

Easy decision by the referee to give that penalty to Croatia.
