But how long ago were those events, Steed? They only come along in domestic football once in a blue moon and even longer in international football which is why I previously likened a possible English WC win to Leicester's amazing EPL triumph, that was literally a 3000-1 shot at the start of that season and although England's odds would've been shorter than that at the start it would've been the same kind of completely left-field outcome.

In the end they got found out by a better team, they looked out on their feet in the second half of every single game that they played and Mbappe and Co. would've had them on toast in the final. French toast. Which isn't actually French.

Nah, not buying it Geoff. You can’t apply such simplicity to such a unpredictable game as football. Would you have tipped Wales to reach the semi final of the Euro’s? Going by your view, it’s not even worth it to turn up to football matches if you are the underdog.

Eh, that's what being a Palace fan does to ya I guess. I can feel my pessimism rising with the passing of every day that brings us closer to the start of the season...

I see it's being reported that Mourinho was impressed by Pogba's performance in the World Cup and he wants him to figure out why he was good and to replicate that for Man Utd. One or two comments being said include the reason he was good was Mourinho wasn't in charge of France.

Th3 guy obviously has stacks of ability, I think his attitude is probably off though imo.

He looks to be happy playing for his country than for United but Deschamps gets the most out of him for France than Mourinho does for United and the only reason why he doesn't do it for Mourinho is that he is too tactical with instructions for his players where as Deschamps trusts his players more and lets his creative players play with more freedom.

Watching him during the last season, there would be games he'd play quite well, and others where he did nothing at all - just wasn't any consistency from him. It may be as you say Tob, that Mourinho wanted things done in a certain way which didn't allow Pogba the freedom to play as he is capable of playing.

We all seem to be forgetting that the reason United (re)bought him for so much money was because of what he was doing at Juve so it's not like the World Cup winning Pogba just materialised out of thin air, he needs the right coach and the right system to get the best out of him. Having Kante mopping everything up would be a boon for most attacking midfielders to be fair, but in lieu of Kante moving to Utd then Jose has got to work this out the hard way.

I get the impression Mourinho doesn't go in for pampering players, which may explain why he didn't get on all that well with Ronaldo during his time as manager at Real Madrid.

He's definitely one of those "luxury" players that we hear about, the sort who'll act like a spoiled brat for 99% of the time but in that other 1% he's got the capability of changing the game. As CV said, Mourinho doesn't really subscribe to that notion.
