Anyone have any idea when Sony will update their TV's with Dolby Vision

Sony must have already their own mock up player/s. If not, we are nearly in DEC how do you think they will be able to design, test and produce a player that works properly in just a couple of months to present it for 2018?

Sure...but you said X800 specifically, I'd say Sony have already left that generation behind. And, as you say, they haven't been doing the TV update for just the last 4 months so they'd have needed to be able to play back test materials before the March 2017 debut of the non-DV (and never will be DV) X800.

Since only part of the player or software needs to be modified for DV it makes perfect sense to use that base. It doesn't mean the final product will still be an x800 but a lot of the design could be reused.

I have no inside knowledge of what Sony is doing in their research and I am sure they keep it closely guarded. What I am sure of is, they would be testing thoroughly with other brands too and even then the end user of the product will find some problem Sony didn't.

It's funny though that Sony's current higher-end sets ignore HDR10 metadata anyway, they might well not bother going after HDR10+ compatibility on their TVs for that reason

This article is dated NOV 24 so maybe not too long. Yamaha released their own update for receivers that support it just a couple of days ago.

Would be great if Sony owners joined the rest (well most, anyways) of us on the Dolby Vision train in January, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about anything reported by John Archer. He's wrong the vast majority of the time.

Very interested to see how sony is handling DV since all LG seems to have the rising blacks issues on some/all DV discs. Might be a LG (Active HDR Enabled?) issue only or just no one can do DV disc correct yet...

I believe only these 2017 displays have the x1 extreme 930e 940e Z9D, and A1E.

Man, that sucks for me. I have the X800E and thought I’d be getting it. My box says it has the processor, but high end only is a bummer.
