The JP disc for Eternal Sunshine looks much better than the U.S. disc and the same goes for the DE disc of A Walk in the Clouds.
Re Spotless Mind - Do you mean the cover that looks very odd, with the pinkish case, and the kissing shot? (There are 3 or 4 different BRs on Amazon JP)

Thanks!

Annoyingly, Amazon doesn't list any as Happinet. The two with the distinctly different covers from the US are both listed as GAGA Communications, one version released in 2008, one in 2012. And the only listing for a Japanese release on blu-ray.com is also labeled GAGA.

I love the film, and would love to get the best version, but it being pricey to import, I don't want to get the wrong one!

I'm not sure then. Caps-a-holic just says Happinet.

Ahh... that helped. For anyone interested, that's the disc listed as the 2008 Gaga version if you're trying to buy it. I would guess (but don't know for sure) that the 2012 Gaga would be the same transfer.

Thanks!!

The DE release of Armour of God (Operation Condor 2) appears to be 99min. in length.

Btw., I love how you have bolded the BEST PQ parts. It makes it so much easier. Way to go.

So the Norwegian disc of John Wick just came out, and for those that don't know, Scandinavian releases tend to have maxed out bitrates. I've looked at some of the caps and from what i can tell it seems to have a better PQ. I'm not going to post the caps here because of where I found them but if you're interested you can easily find them on google. Also to note is that this release is missing the stylized burnd in english subs for the foreign parts.

John Wick
US - AVC 33233 kbps, Dolby Atmos/TrueHD 7.1 5205 kbps 24-bit, extras (Region A locked)
NOR - AVC 36234 kbps, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 3883 kbps 24-bit, same extras as US, no stylised English subs (Region B locked)

I'm surprised any of you are talking about ordering Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The current release is already really good and there is only a slight uptick from the JP one in the video and the audio is inferior. IMO that is not worth paying a premium.

There's only one person posting about it. HD and I merely tried to help him find what he's looking for - I've never even seen the movie and have no desire to do so. That being said, this seems like a strange place to knock someone for wanting the best BD available - both this site and especially in this thread. If sidetracked1 wants to spend his money on something important to him, why should you be critical? This isn't a thread for arguing about this movie did this or this movie had that, it's a place folks come to learn more to assist their buying choices - without critical comments. Maybe next time it'll be someone shitting on your choices - and the next thing you know this thread will be a hate-fest like so many others. You wanna talk about the merits of this or that version? Go to the BD's thread. Here, that's out of bounds. This is a free zone for BD lovers looking for the best version they can find of what they want. Beauty, like desire, my friend, is truly in the eye of the beholder. Let's keep this little corner of the world free for BD lovers everywhere.

What was that all about lol...GenPion is merely pointing out that you'd be paying a stiff premium for a disc that uses the same Master as the U.S. release and may be visually identical in motion regardless of a slight uptick in compression. He wasn't knocking the film in general.

I wasn't trying to knock any users or the movie. All I am trying to say is it's a release that costs $40 and you get a small increase in compression (ALMOST the same) and less good audio. I paid $5 for my copy. If I wanted to spend more on the film again, it would be to get the steelbook. (I'm sure some would knock that.)

I just personally don't think the disc would be worth the premium price. Some films and releases DO deserve a premium edition. But in this case... the US release is incredible and the JP one is barely better on PQ and a major step down on audio.

No offense was meant to anyone. If said user(s) want to buy it, go ahead.

It seems pretty clearcut. Often folks will drop by and ask, because they haven’t seen something, “Is this version a great, good, whatever upgrade?” They’re asking for help. That’s one thing. This fella, new to the thread, drops in looking for help in finding something, something that's marked Best PQ on The List. Two helpful folks try to help. A third drops in and shits on the visitor’s choice - because he knows better? Because the visitor asked for advice? You wanna justify all your choices? You want this this resource, this library, to become a sniping pit like so many other threads? I don’t. People come here to find information helping them to get the best version of a BD they’re interested in. Leave the rest of that second-guessing crap outside like the Japanese do with shoes - it’s merely polite!

You feel compulsed to comment on a rating? Take it up with HD - maybe he'll change the rating or even take it off the list - or comment in that BDs thread. But if you guys don't understand why that shouldn't happen here, how that kind of thing is corrosive, you're being disingenuous. Read the damn thread and see how little of that crap we have here. You say "I paid $5 for my copy. If I wanted to spend more on the film again, it would be to get the steelbook." That's your business, good luck - but someone else choice is none of your business. This isn't a critique club, and if we ALL accept that, people can keep coming, in BD friendship, to get help getting what they want - and not what you, me or the next clown wants. I just don't grok how that's so hard to see. Did I hurt your feelings? If so, good - because hurt feelings is all that could come out of your critique. It's none of your damn business what other folks want - and the fella said that's what he wanted, not an opinion, not advice, simply how to find that BD because he wanted it. Me, I wouldn't piss on a steelbook, or triple-dip on a BD because they put it out with a new cover like some fools do - but I NEVER criticize anyone who's into that, because my choices don't all smell like roses either and it's none of my business - or I'd start my own thread and tell people what to think there. Gee, I'm sure that would really go over big. Live and let live, brother, especially here, please:

Well, the moral of the story, the moral of this song
Is simply that one should never be where one does not belong
So when you see your neighbor carryin’ somethin’
Help him with his load
And don’t go mistaking Paradise for that home across the road

Umm... I really didn't mean to inadvertantly start any tension here.

Early Memphis, I truly thank you for worrying that I might have taken GenPion's comments amiss, but I promise I didn't. Maybe we just read what he wrote differently, but I didn't feel he was putting me down for my interest, he was just offering an opinion. I found it helpful, not insulting.

Ironically, after looking on caps-a-holic I found the difference very slight, and was wondering if the upgrade was worth the money. So, for me the comment was actually apt.

I appreciate all the intelligence and good-will on this thread too, but I really didn't feel that had been violated in any way by what was said.

That said, I also very much appreciate your desire to keep this place positive. I think we all share that.

Back to Black Hawk Down....I know again

can we change to this:
SE/NO/FI/DK - AVC 31062 kbps, DTS-HD MA 7.1 2710 kbps 16-bit, no extras, Hardcoded English subs (Region A/B )

Watched it again and it has hard coded English subs and plays Region A for sure, although the listing on this site does have it Region Free.

Sorry to bring it up again just want the list to be as accurate as possible, so everyone can make their own decisions on what disc is best for them.
