I overlooked it's Paramounts own release, not just distribution, so it's pretty sure region free as Paramount (also Warner, Universal) does all their German releases reg. free (excluding German movies).
Not the best idea though, putting 50Hz content right at start of a reg. free disc ![]() Good idea, maybe it works just as with Panasonic .. |

Is Criterion taking the piss here:
![]() ![]() https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-R...9/#Screenshots I wouldn't call it a grain structure, its more of a smudgy artifacting blocky mess structure. ![]() Last edited by Tech-UK; 04-25-2015 at 10:38 PM. |

I hope you're not basing that solely off of BRDC's screencaps Tech, because they're lossy jpegs that probably aren't doing the compression any favours.

Its still likely that Criterion have yet again produced a bad encode. If what is shown is true, they look terrible in terms of grain structure. The master/transfer looks pretty darn good. I haven't seen yet the UK/US Fury release. You guys think it's encoded in the wrong color space, or just sloppy black levels? From some caps, it could be wrong color space, not sure though.
Is the French transfer confirmed to look better? |

Darn it. Looks like I will be re-buying The Book of Eli for the third time. Although I cannot see it being massively improved upon, as the DK release that I own, is very good.
What studio has released The Book of Eli in Japan? The DK release is from Sony, so its been through the SBMV process, of which reduces the banding that is quiet obvious on the US and UK releases. |

^^^^What he said.
A-Bing it with the UK disc, it's a hair sharper. Would need time codes regarding any banding. The various releases appear to be from the same source anyway. This is evident by the faint lines where the black bars meet the actual picture. Downscaling artifact? Possibly, but they all have it from what I've seen. |

Friday the 13th (2009)
US - VC-1 17580 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 1562 kbps 16-bit, SDH subs only, extras (105-minute Extended Killer Cut) US - VC-1 17433 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 1549 kbps 16-bit, SDH subs only, extras (97-minute Theatrical Cut) AU/DK/FI/NL/NO/SE/UK - AVC 29095 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 3295 kbps, 24-bit, English SDH and non-SDH subs, extras (105-minute Extended Killer Cut only) Notes: The US BD from New Line/Warner (which I don't own) has two cuts on one disc, while outside North America, Paramount decided to split the two versions across multiple territories. Despite some confusion in the listings here, it looks like only the UK, Australia, Holland, and the Nordic territories got the Killer Cut (my UK BD has Australian, Dutch and UK/IRE rating logos), while most of Europe and Asia has a disc with the 97-minute R-rated version. Here is an unverified scan of that disc I found online: AVC 30935 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 3250 kbps, 24-bit, English subs, less extras According to the subtitle options in various scans online, this edition has audio and/or subtitles for: Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Dutch (again), Estonian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Ukrainian languages depending on which of three discs you pick up (roughly West Europe, Central Europe or Asia), and it omits the PiP track which is included on both the US and UK BDs. Only one English subtitle file is provided on these discs, and it is probably non-SDH. |
