Wondering about the PQ / AQ of the Spanish The Pianist, which the site's database lists as another Region free option (although not indexed in this thread). Much appreciated if any owners of that disc could chime in.

Anyone can help to confirm if the German Deer Hunter is MPEG-4 AVC or VC-1. I saw the new release is AVC as shown on the website, but 2009 release is VC-1. Is it new transfer or just wrong info?

You mean the "Award Winning Collection" release by Arthaus/Studiocanal? Wrong info, same transfer.
None of these 20 titles features a new transfer, presented in golden Amarays though.

Just in case you don't know already (took me a while to realize myself), on this site the region entries are all made by members (bluray.de it's different, they go beforehand with the distributor's info, changes possible via reporting only.)

So, if you click "Region Coding" on the page you linked, you'll find at least the single member who tested / confirmed and posted the nfo
(no guarantee OC)

I am considering the forthcoming JP deer hunter.
BTW, LOCK, STOCK AND TWO BARRELS JP version seems to have better AVC transfer as well as USUAL SUSPECTS.
