As far as I know it's just a re-release of the same two disc set that contains two of the three cuts, but I could be mistaken.

Just got this release. Far as I can tell, it's the same as the Premium and Premium 2.0. Same bitrate etc.

So if you don't have a region free player, this is an option.

There is also a very cheap single disc option, without the extras.

Is this based upon your taking a look at/listen to both? Or just the higher video bitrate for the new release? Or screen caps? I note that the site has not reviewed the new (May 2015) Lionsgate release.

Hong Kong version of Whiplash has 24/96 Upsample TrueHD 7.1 audio track. I have the disc but am not able to do a BDScan of it. My player shows significantly lower video bitrates than the North American versions. It's just a BD-25 but still a significant increase in audio quality.

It has has slightly better compression than the JP disc, which used to have the best PQ.

As an owner of the first JP disc(s) and a recent purchaser of the new US disc, even I would have to admit that the new disc looks better. Spent the last two days A-B'ing them and while both clearly derived from the same source, the newer AVC encoding pulls everything it can out of it. The problem there is that my first impressions weren't great, as the new disc looked a bit too 'edgy' at first. The baked in sharpening being a bit clearer, whereas the older 2008 encoding masked it a bit.

Where did this info regarding the ES disc come from? It's inaccurate. I wanted X-Men Origins: Wolverine from Amazon.es, and thought I might add another title to the order, so I chose Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. They arrived today, and I have just checked the FF disc, and there is no English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track on the disc at all, there is only a lossy English Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

BDInfo shows this as being a 96/16 track at 3167 kbps, despite what is advertised on the cover. In fact, I have rarely seen any kind of 24-bit track on a domestic HK BD. Now, this could be a fault of BDInfo, but the measured size makes sense.

I can't remember, but it's been on the list for quite some time. I removed the ES entry and left it at PL.

Oh wow, that's odd they would wrongly advertise this on all of these upsampled titles! I was seeing audio bitrates in the range of 4200-5500 and the back clearly states a 96/24 7.1 track. Now I don't know what to believe, sounded better to me than the North American versions. Way deeper, louder bass at least.

The same thing is true with my Raid 2 disc from HK. It states 96 Upsampling blah blag but it's 16 bit even though on the back it states 24 bit. Of course there is also a 24 bit track as well that isn't upsampled.

I have the JP version of Looper with the Upsample, I'm sure that's probably only 16 bit as well! I wonder why they state 24 bit on everything then :/
