Both versions have their good and bad points.

Crappy encoding aside, how come the Koch is slightly zoomed in in some scenes compared to the Shout. Noticed it on caps 2,4, 7 and 8 on caps-a-holic.

In the main listing on the 1st page of the thread, under "The Last Emperor" there is a listing for an IT version in VC-1 with a 2.39 AR:

"IT - VC-1 20000 kbps 2.39:1, DTS-HD HR 5.1 3840 kbps 16-bit, theatrical cut, no English subs (Region B locked)"

That left me a bit confused. Elsewhere, the regular 2D IT transfer is listed as VC-1, but every source I've seen says it's 2:01.

The new 3D version is 2:39, but is listed as MPEG-4 MVC.

Is MPEG-4 MVC another name for VC-1? Or is the 2D release actually in the right aspect ratio?!?
