The Arrow Films release of Blow Out is the best looking of the bunch.

It appears to vary by scene.

You're sure it's not the same encode? Bitrate readers aren't always accurate. Especially for a format dead for almost 8 years.

Compression is better on the HD DVD. Take a look: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=...5&l=1&i=5&go=1

The Diary of a Lost Girl with Louise Brooks
Judging by the screenshots on the Blu-Ray.com site (I can't find screencap comparisons on caps-a-holic), the UK Blu-Ray release by Eureka Entertainment has the correct aspect ratio of 1.33:1 whereas the Kino Lorber US Release is 1.28:1.

The UK also seems a little brighter (less compression?) with a little more detail and natural grain.

The UK is Region B Locked while the US is Region A Locked.

American Psycho needs updating Goof.

From what I can see, the UK release features the best PQ. The Sony release still has DNR, as things are missing and artifacts present.

Even then you can't be sure though that the exact same software / decoder is used on both versions.
It's not like sticking in one Blu-ray and then another these days. It would also be peculiar for Warner to do that when they didn't on so many other of their VC-1 titles.

I am close to certain on this one. I have seen the same thing on several other Warner and Universal HD DVDs.

to me they're absolutely identical apart from a little difference in color grading...

Nope. The UK disc is superior. Also, look here: http://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=...3&l=0&i=4&go=1

So is AU 3:10 to Yuma worth getting? What about L.A. Confidential? The JP version is supposed to be the best however I have heard the HK version also have a AVC encode.

The only real advantage for the AU disc for 3:10 to Yuma is that the audio is unaltered at 5.1 while the US disc has been matrixed to 7.1.

Yeah I noticed that but I didn't know if the AVC encode made any difference.

Here you go: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=356...0&a=1&go=0&l=1 The DE disc is identical to the AU disc. The DE disc is confirmed region free, but I am not sure on the AU disc. IMHO the US disc has slightly better compression.

Bitdepth was wrong on HK. From bdinfo

AVC 24940 kbps 1080p / 23,976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
Dolby TrueHD Audio 3069 kbps 5.1 / 96 kHz / 3069 kbps / 16-bit

So updated HK and added DE:

Dredd (2D)
US - AVC 27.50 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 7.1 (Neo:X) 4989 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region A locked) Best AQ
HK - AVC 24940 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 3069 kbps 16-bit 96 kHz upsampled, English subs (Region A locked)
ES - AVC 18.00 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2145 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region B)
UK - AVC 20.00 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2144 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region B locked)
DE - AVC 17.99 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 16-bit, no English subs
FR - AVC 20.67 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2142 kbps 16-bit, no English subs (Region B locked) Best PQ
SE/DK/NO/FI - AVC 27059 kbps, DTS-HD MA 7.1 2567 kbps 16-bit, no English subs (Region B)
JP - AVC 19.97 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 7.1 (Neo:X) 96 kHz 7060 kbps 24-bit, HD extras, no English subs (Region free) Best PQ/AQ

Anyone seen NO vs JP/FR? The one I got HK specs from wrote this: The NOR is a touch better most of the time, but has a couple ugly frames. But then he only compared to NO disc.

Seems like both HK and NO have their problems though:

HK: http://i.imgbox.com/adfyrH6W.png
NOR: http://i.imgbox.com/acfIYjrg.png
