The Arrow version is simply too dark and over-saturated.

Shots 6 and 10 show off lost detail in the Arrow scan.

I honestly feel the Arrow disc looks better, but if anything there is no clear winner. I have to leave it in the list anyway since it has exclusive extras.

I see better skincolors, less red faces/backgrounds, less black crush. No real detail lost either since Shouts in a brand new scan and therefore less heavy grain. But I can understand that some like the darker look of the older scan.

I just watched Bone Tomahawk - UK disc - and couldn't believe how bad the PQ was. Especially given the 4.5/5 score for PQ on this site's review . Does anyone know if the US one is a different transfer to the UK/worldwide?

OK bad might be exaggerating a tad but it isn't good. Greyish blacks, soft as hell, almost DVD-like in some scenes. Even the bright desert scenes just don't look anywhere near as good as they do in other blu-rays. For instance - I saw 13 Hours not long ago and that looked pretty near reference. I know Bone Tomahawk is a micro budget film but even so..

Goof, the JP 'so-called' remaster is a POS. The original JP and IT releases feature the best PQ.

Yeah, the JP 'remaster' is in no way better than the previous JP release.

I have the UK version of Training Day. It has the same VC-1, 16424, DD 5.1, English subs as you describe for the FR/SE/NO/FI/DK/DE version.

Default Phantom of the Paradise

Phantom of the Paradise
JP: AVC 28072 kbps, English DTS-HD MA 5.1 3274 kbps, English subs, Region A
UK: AVC 34789 kbps, English LPCM 2.0 2304 kbps, English DTS-HD MA 4.0 4-track stereo 2906kbps, English Subs, Region B locked Best PQ/AQ
FR: AVC 24958 kbps 24fps old master, English DTS-HD MA 5.1 1961 kbps, No English subs, Region Free
US: AVC, English DTS-HD MA 5.1/2.0, English subs, Region AB

The FR disc uses an older master. I have the JP disc and I compared to the Arrow shots and they are identical as far as transfers. The compression is good on the Fox disc but I do see *slightly more film grain on the UK release. The Fox source is supposidely a 4K remaster but Shout seemed to have tinkered with it heavily. The US one is brighter, has cooler colors and seems to have some DNR though compared to UK/JP.

And original frame rate (which is still debatable in the relevant forum, but anyway)
