Anyone have any quality info on the Italian Master & Commander?

What's the deal with the U.S release of Kiss of the Dragon. This threads lists it as being AVC:

whereas the database lists it as being MPEG-2?:

The IT disc of Master & Commander has a higher bitrate than the U.S. disc, but it uses the same master. The difference in the two is negligible at best.

No coffee yet? The difference is the 2nd disc of extras which both you and I have the DVD for. No word on whether it has new extras or HD vs lo-def, and there's no point in my asking as it's been confirmed to be region B - which locks me out.

Unless there was a rerelease, the database is correct, its MPEG-2.

How does the PQ compare to the Criterion release?

The JP Premium original release and 2.0 editions are probably the best, both have slightly better bit-rates and no DNR. There isn't a "Perfect" edition though. 2.0 would be the better of the two as it has the DTS-HD MA.

Bought 2.0 pretty cheap a year ago or something so keep your eyes on amazon/cdjapan once in a while or use this forums excellent pricetracker. It's not always so expensive

It is be the best version until a real remaster by Cameron that will hopefully happen sooner than later.

There is little between the cheaper UK optimum disc and the JP Premium to warrant the cost, the master is the issue

The NFA transfer on the Czech is simply breathtaking and practically flawless. I was even more impressed by it than Mosfilm's most recent restoration of Andrei Rublev. The Criterion uses the same restored print but it's encoded at a marginally lower bitrate.

Update HK disc. Just found out about the HK IMAX blu-ray, too bad it's such low quality Love when they open up the picture like Guardians of the Galaxy or Transformers 4.
