The MGM USA release is, in fact, also AVC (the back cover stating MPEG-2 is incorrect), but they are still completely different transfers. I realize I'm way late to the party on this but I just imported the Sony release from Japan (it's cheap) and was struck by their differences.

Overall I would highly recommend the Sony overseas release. It has no extras (the US release has a brief trailer) but the PQ is much superior on many levels.

Interesting. I noted from the leaked Sony 4K scan list that Force 10 was on there (4K scan for 2K finish), but from the caps alone the MGM release looked anything but, so I wondered about that one (and l'armee did too, looking at his list). There's also a Euro Sony disc too.

I was comparing the new German and UK Fury discs earlier and the German one has a very noticeable improvement in the blacks - you can actually see detail in the tank now which just wasn't there before. One or two outside scenes seemed a bit too bright and not dark enough now perhaps but from what I have seen, the German one definitely has the advantage and I am glad I got it. English-friendly menu too.
