So those are wondering if the UK release is the same as the DE will be disappointed to learn that it uses the identical codec (BD-25) as the US. The DE is OOP and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the FR edition is the same? DVDFR.com, which is generally reliable, lists the disc as a BD-50.

Although Sony generally uses the same master, there tends to be a little variation (however negligible) with the streams depending on which language you select on the first menu screen. Other studios like Studio Canal and Universal are similar. For example, the codecs on the remastered Ultimate Rekall overseas disc for Total Recall (1990) were marginally different depending on whether you selected the UK menu vs. the NL menu. If I recall, the former had a slightly higher A/V bitrate than the latter.

For region A/free(?) version...

I just received the Netherlands set from Proxis. Cost about $28 US including shipping. Very nice price, I think. 3D and 2D blu-ray discs play perfectly, although they default to French audio. Toggling over to English was not a big deal.

The DVD is different region code than U.S. but also, not a big deal for me.

The extras are approx. 50% in French with no Eng subtitles, so you have to brush up a bit on your French when Jeunet and his team speak in their native tongue about the production.

The extras (which are numerous) are also in PAL which might be a problem for some players/TVs in the U.S. I did not have an issue watching them with my Oppo player and Sony projector.

About the film: what a wonderfully odd, awkward, beautiful film. Must be seen in 3D. Every shot is a diorama. A much more melancholy and moving experience than I was expecting. I don't want to say more.

That's like in the old days. UK gets higher video bitrate but the 24-bit audio gets the shaft. On such a new movie original is definiately 24-bit but wonder how the video compression will compare.

Lord of War DE version is pretty much reference quality. A very filmic fine-grain transer, with just some light banding in a scene or two.

Sound is great as well.

I love this list, since it's incredibly useful.
However, I'd love it even more if the reason of why a specific release is better than the others was given.
It's there sometimes, such as no DNR, new transfer, etc., but more often then not it's not stated, and one would have to read through the entire thread to find out.

How about Dirty Dancing, for example? Why is the PQ of the DE release superior?

Also, Amazonia, and incredible nature film, has been released in the UK, FR and DE, in both a 3-D/2D version, as well as a 2-D standalone version. Both DE versions have the same extras, but the bitrate on the 2-D version is about 10 mbps higher, and the encode is clearly better, as it's not as noisy in a couple of shots, and has less banding than the 3-D version.
The 2-D version does introduce 2-3 instances of aliasing though, one of the cage, another of a liana in the background. It's only noticable to the eagle-eyed I think, but I noticed it nontheless, as I was carefully comparing the two. Also, one shots is brighter in the 2-D version.

It has a 5.1 DTS-HD MA track. There is no dialogue in the film in the OV, but the German disc also has a track with German narration.
The subtitles can be turned off.

I hightly recommend this movie to nature lovers.

For example, I find the DTS-HD MA track of the UK Twister release much too harsh in the high end, whereas the Dolby TrueHD of US release sounds great.

Removed Sense and Sensibility since the U.S. disc has better PQ.

Sleepy Hollow is a tough one. Many think the JP disc is better than the U.S., but the colors have always looked off to me and it's 1080i.

I see the US Dirty Dancing seems to have some very light DNR applied to the transfer compared with the DE one.

Perhaps the DTS-HD MA track of Twister is much louder, and I didn't compensate for that. Have to give it another whirl.

Well, I can personally vouch for Amazonia.
Both DE editions are great, but if you only care for 2-D, the 2-D standalone version is the one to get.
As mentioned, I have seen both.
I don't know about the UK and FR releases though.
