I have the Twilight Time release of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and recently had the opportunity to check out the Carlotta (France) release of that title, and thought I’d report here, where the occasional Clint fan is said to ride through…

The French version is purportedly superior to the UK release. Also, Carlotta’s Kiss Me Deadly looks very nice, maybe even better than Criterion’s (see dvdbeaver.com for comparative review), so Carlotta is capable of good work.

For Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, any big improvement I hoped for wasn’t there, unfortunately; but the two releases are very close. Carlotta used a little higher bit-rate than Twilight Time, and Carlotta’s image has either a slightly noisier encode or slightly more high-end resolution, take your pick.

Not that there’s anything wrong with these blu-rays, but Cimino’s cinematography on Thunderbolt and Lightfoot always impressed me, and I hoped for more on this format – whatever fault is probably with the source.

Still, great after all those years having only the non-anamorphic DVD.

ES is way blown, all whites and has a unnatural pink tint in all white but yes I think ES got better colors overall. But I won't choose that over the rest. Thats what I think, all got diffrent eyes...

It's only available in the Nordic countries so it should be the same disc. I have added it to the list, but it looks like it's MPEG-2 has no English subs.

The ES just looks more pleasing overall to me. It looks like a more recent master than the U.S. disc. That horrible blue tint just kills it for me.

Damn see now my Immortals update got wiped in the big one

From my head some discs like JP had diffrent gamma (brighter) that made the picture more pleasing than the overly dark US disc. The comparison is long gone from screenshotcomparison but I might have it saved somewhere. I also own the JP disc so I'll see if I can get some more info on this.

DTS-HD MA 5.1 and only nordic subs indeed. Also some extras like behind the scenes, music videos, deleted scenes and Andy Kaufman: This is his story. Can't say anything about mpeg2 but it's 2.35:1 according to the cover and region B locked.

It's definitely not MPEG-2, I own it. Can't remember if it's AVC or VC-1, though.
