![]() JP - AVC 39.43 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2285 kbps 16-bit, brief optical censorship, burned-in English subs for non-English dialogue, optional Japanese subs, trailer (Region free) The French BD does have a making of featurette, which is about 20 minutes, but it also has the forced French subtitles. I did not watch much of the French BD when I had it, but I did find that the film has a substantial amount of foreign (I believe Albanian) dialogue in it. So the French BD is not a good choice. The Japanese BD appears to use the master for the UK, and has burned-in English subtitles for the non-English dialogue. The bad news is that, despite the film carrying the highest age restriction in Japan (R18+), there is still one instance of optical censorship in the film. More information and the BDInfo scan can be found starting here. |

Ghost and Hannibal should have "Best PQ" on JP disc. Also AQ on Ghost since that is the original and the HK is upmixed only.

JP should be best PQ even if open matte or not? Things can still be great looking even if not OAR or should we only go by "original" standards in both audio and video? If only original then a lot of newer remixes would be excluded, like all atmos tracks :P
Sahara (2005) US - MPEG-2 17280 kbps, DTS 5.1 1509 kbps, extras, English subs (Region free) FR - AVC 17831 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2294 kbps 16-bit, all US Extras, no English subs (Region B) DE - AVC 27961 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2125 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region B locked) JP - AVC 38629 kbps 1.78:1 open matte, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 1627 kbps 16-bit, no English subs (Region A) Last edited by wesslan; 03-04-2016 at 02:07 PM. |

It's not open matte. I don't think you understand what the actual issue is, perhaps you should read over some of the U.K. threads to familiarise yourself with the issue.

Are we basing best AQ here on 24-bit without info what the original is? Too me it looks like spirits have padded 24-bit audio for PL release and source is probably 16-bit only. But then what should be best AQ for children since JP is 16-bit...although Japan mostly only do 16 even if source is 24.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete US - AVC 20145 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 3612 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region free) JP - AVC 24210 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 1714 kbps 16-bit, different ending theme, no English subs (Region A) Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within US/UK/SE - AVC 26315 kbps, LPCM 5.1 4608 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region free) PL - AVC 26315 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 3380 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region B) Best AQ Best PQ on JP re-release: Kiki´s Delivery Service (Majo no takkyûbin) US - N/A UK - AVC, Japanese LPCM 2.0, English subs (Region B locked) AU - AVC 29591 kbps, Japanese LPCM 2.0 1536 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region B) JP - AVC 36410 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 2124 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region free) JP (re-release) - AVC 38926 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 2124 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region A) Best AQ on HK disc like most new movies HK keep the original 7.1 for themself: Drug War US - AVC 22126 kbps, Cantonese DTS-HD MA 5.1 2296 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region free) HK - AVC 26489 kbps, Cantonese Dolby TrueHD 7.1 3393 kbps 16-bit / DTS-HD MA 7.1 2819 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region A) Should be noted on Pandorum that text in beginning and the end is in french only and have some blurring in some screens but overall little better PQ over JP so depends on what you prefer here and is a good example that high bitrate isn't always best. Here is a example with FR vs JP (JP is better than US) http://imgbox.com/sthyHZns http://imgbox.com/jp86eQiX FRA (27838 kbps) JPN (24852 kbps) US (29819 kbps) Pandorum US - AVC 29.82 Mbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 3771 kbps 24-bit, exclusive extras, English subs (Region A locked) UK - AVC 28.9 Mbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 24-bit, English subs (Region free) FR - AVC 27.8 Mbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 16-bit, no English subs (Region B) Best PQ DE - AVC, DTS-HD HR 6.1 2046 kbps 24-bit, most extras, no English subs (Region B) NO/SE/FI/DK - AVC, DTS-HD MA 7.1, fewer extras, no English subs (Region B) One english subs is enough for ponyo re-release ![]() Ponyo US - AVC 1.85:1, Japanese DD 5.1, extras, English subs (Region free) UK - AVC 1.85:1 27500 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 6.1 24-bit, English subs (Region B locked) JP - AVC 1.78:1 23515 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 5.1 24-bit 4537 kbps, English subs (Region A/B) JP (Re-release) - AVC 33199 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 6.1 4463 kbps 24-bit, English subs, English subs (Region A) Best PQ/AQ JP re-release have best PQ Porco Rosso US - N/A JP - AVC 35203 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 2164 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region free) JP (re-release) - AVC 38259 kbps, Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 2164 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region A) UK - AVC 29352 kbps, Japanese LPCM 2.0 1536 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region B) Last edited by wesslan; 03-04-2016 at 04:10 PM. |

Are we certain the AU disc is different? I finally opened and watched my UK copy and typical of global Universal releases, the disc had ratings for many countries including Australia. I ran it through BDinfo and it also had every dub and sub one could imagine needing.

I wonder how the Umbrella release of 1990's Night of the Living Dead will fare when it comes out? It seems pretty positive at the moment.
Also, how is Umbrella's release of the original Dawn of the Dead when compared to the OOP US release and the Japanese blu? |
