Diary of a Lost Girl (1929 Film)
US (Region A Locked): AVC 20960 kbps, LPCM 2.0 1536 kbps, 1.28:1 Aspect Ratio, English Subs, Extras: Trailer, Movie Commentary, & "Windy Riley Goes To Hollywood" Short Film UK (Region B Locked): AVC 35100 kbps, LPCM 2.0 2304 kbps, 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio, English Subs, Extras: Naked on My Goat Video Essay & 40 Page Booklet Best PQ/AQ Would like to see this listed. The UK Version has the correct aspect ratio and both versions contain different extras. UK also has a Blu-Ray & DVD whereas the US release is Blu-Ray only. Found the video & audio bit rate comparisons here: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-r...rl_blu-ray.htm |

Bit the bullet and purchased the Region A release myself (since the film's great enough to warrant it IMO) so I have the Region A and Region B releases.
They're pretty similar but UK/Region B for me had slightly more natural grain and IMO the contrast was better (whites seemed less grayed/washed out). Black levels were pretty identical. The aspect ratio isn't a deal breaker but watching them back to back, it's something that can be picked up on. If a buyer is a stickler for that department, they should opt for the Region B release. The audio track is near identical on both releases so you can go with either release there. I opted to pick UK solely for the higher bitrate, so it's entirely up to the buyer how they feel in that regard. Hope that helped ![]() |

The earlier specs for the German BD was for the original Danish film "Nattevagten", the specs you added are for the Spanish edition of the US remake which btw also has a German release. You should probably add an entry for the remake and make a note so there'll be no further confusion.

Of the following David Lynch movies not released in the US, which country/release would you all recommend for an American to import now that I'm finally getting a region free player?
Elephant Man Lost Highway Inland Empire Wild At Heart (Technically it was released in the US by Twilight Time, but it's OOP and cheaper to import any number of different versions) Not sure if I should go the versions I see come up first on Amazon.co.uk for all of these, or if there is better alternatives that are similarly priced? They're all pretty cheap on Amazon.co.uk. I want the best versions, but price is a small consideration as well. |

Now a follow-up question on the two that are not from the UK... For both Lost Highway - JP and Wild At Heart - DE, are the menus and special features in English still (and do they actually contain the special features that the other versions might have?) ... Will I, as an American, have a difficult time navigating and enjoying these discs, I guess is the question. I'm also assuming that the likely Japanese subtitles are not baked in, but can be disabled? I've actually got the Korean blu-ray of Memories of Murder, my only really foreign blu-ray currently besides some Canadian ones which I often don't even notice that they're not the US one... anyway, the menus and special features on the Memories of Murder blu-ray are all in Korean and so there's not much I can do with that disc besides just play the movie and enable English subtitles. If there was an English-language disc somewhere (not dubbed audio, but menus and special features that are either subtitled or designed for an English audience) then I'd have preferred to buy it, most likely, unless it was drastically worse in PQ/AQ. So that's just a little look at what I'm looking for in a foreign blu-ray of these movies. I don't know what to expect because they're English-language movies being released in other-language speaking countries, whereas my Memories of Murder blu-ray is legitimately a Korean blu-ray of a Korean movie. |
