Oh that's neat, I never realized that. (About English movie = English menus worldwide). That would be great if that's the case!

So in regards to Lost Highway, I see a lot of different versions, and the JP version seems to be the best PQ, but I can get the German or UK version for about HALF the price. Is the difference really great enough that it's worth twice the money for the JP version? (And that's the re-release JP version, not the one with the special features disc, which costs a whole lot more).

I do like one thing about the JP version, which is that I can play it even on Region A players. I'm getting an all-regions player, so it isn't a problem to get the Region B version, but being able to play it at my family's house where they only have a Region A player, or in my bedroom where I just have an American PS3 for a blu-ray player, etc., is enticing. But on the other hand, having a Region B version is enticing in its own right because I'm paying a lot of money for an all regions player and I'm going to want things to justify owning it hahaha

If bang for your buck is what you are after the DE Lynch box-set is a great deal (assuming you don't have the other 2).

If you can find enough titles you want to justify the shipping I would say go the Japanese route.

I already have Mulholland Drive, but not Inland Empire. I do WANT Inland Empire though. Apparently I can buy that boxed set SHIPPED from Amazon.de to the US for only $16. That's a pretty damn incredible deal, actually, even if I do already own one of the three.

How are these German editions of Lost Highway and Inland Empire compared to others in the world? Bang for the buck is important to me, but not the ONLY consideration. I have these on DVD already, so I'm really looking to ensure I get a substantial upgrade over the DVD, even if it's not the best PQ in the world, so PQ isn't the only consideration either, but is important. PQ and price, very important, both of them. A middle ground that gets me great PQ and price would be ideal for me.

BY FAR the cheapest way for me to get BOTH Lost Highway and Inland Empire is to buy this box set that you linked me to from the German Amazon. So assuming they have pretty good PQ, I'm all over it! How different are these discs from the French and Japanese?

Check out the review:

I don't have any of the other releases, so I can't compare, but I was very happy with the PQ on all three. Especially for the price.

I think it's the same as the U.S., but I'm not sure.

Seriously?

Once you put it under a virtual microscope there's more picture noise (not grain) but no loss of detail or compression artifacts on the Shout.

Really? This isn't just noise: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=...4&l=1&i=1&go=1

The colors are a bit better on the DE disc as well.

yep DE clearly have better compression because of the higher bitrate.

Those almost look like the "sharpness enhancement" from MPEG2 with no appreciable extra detail, just more noise.

It's not noise, it's poor compression from Shout!

If it was sharpness enhancement, edges would be more distinguished, but they are the same between the releases.

To be honest, I am not going to say anymore on the matter because you said the same thing about the Arrow and Criterion releases of Koyaanisqatsi/Powaqqatsi, of which the Arrow encodes are superior, resulting in better grain structures and not added noise.

Updated The Mirror. A shame we finally get English subs, but the track is an English dub instead of the native Russian.

The track is almost certainly not English. The metadata has probably been incorrectly tagged as "English", but I'm sure that the audio is the original audio track.

I didn't know that the Danish film had ever even gotten a BD release.
