Gonna try Reign of Fire JP disc with dolby trueHD from Pony. Hopefully it´s a notch better other discs as UK for example have 18.55 Mbps.

Added American History X: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=871...0&a=1&go=0&l=1

The NL disc has better compression due to AVC instead of VC-1. Would you see it in motion? Probably not.

I was after that myself, but even the recently reissued disc is around £30 shipped from Amazon.co.jp and CDjapan don't have it. Maybe if was a tenner less I'd give it a chance, but not now.

I don't see any glaring issues with the US disc. Does this one sport that much better PQ or AQ?

I'm not sure, that's why not I'm not willing to be the guinea pig. The Japanese HD DVD was considered reference quality at time of release.

The Disney release looks harshly digital to me.

I need to look at it again as it's been a year or so since I have seen it.

The US blu for HARDCORE HENRY uses DTS-MA 5.1 while the German blu has Dolby Atmos.

It's extremely frustrating that the Blu-rays and Universal's domestic DVD are only 2.0 - this was one of the first films in Dolby Digital 5.1 theatrically and had a powerful & active soundtrack.

Hell, they found the rare 5.1 track for Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. Why not Matinee???

Then it sold out, I got it from cdjapan for 1800 yen with shipping but I had some points saved, thats like $18 total. Worth a try now when it finally dropped to 2500 yen standard price. Since it's pony and a diffrent transfer I hope for the best

Interesting, the re-issue isn't listed under the English title, but rather the Japanese title of Salamander

I didn't get as good a deal as yourself, as I only have 885 points, ($23.26 shipped), but still...

It knocks it down to something that I'm willing to take a punt on. I've always liked the film, but have always been disappointed by the home format versions.

Would people agree that the US disc looks better (colour wise) than the german even though neither disc is ideal:

You don't happen to own other JP Pony Canyon releases like Sixth Sense? Now it's half price I'm very interested to know if it beats the DE disc.

The US disc is definitely the better choice.

Updated Solaris. It's a pick your poison situation, but I do think the UK disc looks the worst of the three choices.

I only own xXx and Appleseed: Ex Machina and to be fair, they both shit on the western versions.

xXx actually resembles film, not the smeary digital crap that Sony put out.
