Default The Lady from Shanghai

Have you been able to check out the Indicator release of The Lady from Shanghai? It seems to improve upon the TCM re-release with more shadow detail.

I rely on caps-a-holic. dvdbeaver has had issues with their screen captures in the past.

Oh, alright. I did see that some of the comparison frames weren't the exact frame as the others. I was thinking that I never see that on caps-a-holic, so I understand. Thanks for pointing that out. Guess we'll have to wait for caps-a-holic.

Does someone know if this release: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Termi...8/#UserReviews
... is the same as this one: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Termi...lu-ray/127046/
... in terms of PQ?

Default Aguirre, the Wrath of God

I think Aguirre, the Wrath of God should be added, as the US release is poor. The UK release seems much better PQ-wise.

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=...7&l=1&i=5&go=1

It seems better than the DE release as well.

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=...3&l=1&i=1&go=1

Aguirre, the Wrath of God
US - AVC 34421 kbps, DE DTS-HD MA 2.0 1573 kbps 24-bit / DE DTS-HD MA 5.1 3926 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region A)
UK - AVC 29999 kbps, DE LPCM 1.0 1152 kbps 24-bit / DE DTS-HD MA 5.1 3025 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region B locked) Best PQ
DE - AVC 23998 kbps, DE DTS-HD MA 2.0 1325 kbps 24-bit / DE DTS-HD MA 5.1 2742 kbps 24-bit, no English subs (Region B locked)

I don't know how you want to tackle the extras.

Added Baron Blood. A bit of trivia:

It was a loop and layered piece of Baron Blood that was used to make that sounds of hell hoax about a decade ago.

Regarding caps-a-holic, when I view caps on there, the image extends beyond the size of my screen, i.e. I have to scroll considerably both horizontally and vertically in order to see the full image. I can't remember if it was always like this. My screen resolution is at 1080P, and zoom is at 100% in my browser. It's the same problem regardless of which browser I use. Oddly enough, if I save the cap to my computer and view it in in another program, it occupies the entire screen as expected. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm starting to think the integrity of the caps are compromised because the browser is artificially enlarging the image.

Not on my 1080p monitor at home. My work monitor is 1650 by 1050 so it happens with it on that one.

UK - AVC 34894 kbps, LPCM 1.0 1152 kbps 24-bit / LPCM 2.0 2304 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region B locked) Best PQ

UK release has better compression and more extras.

Although, if one compares with the DE DVD, the color timing might be incorrect.

Eureka's UK release is better. The extras on the Criterion edition are pretty substantial relative to Eureka's release, though.

Looked at all the shots and it's too vague. You really do have to blow it up 400% to see a meaningful difference.

People really shouldn't use DVD as a reference for color or luma.

Updates made. I did check them all first and you are correct about all three for PQ.

For A River Runs Through It, I believe the pathé restoration has incorrect teal color. I do think it's the best PQ, but I wonder if you would want to make a note about the color.

Despite the teal it still looks much better than any other transfer out there.

I agree, but I meant that you could still keep the Best PQ designation and note the inaccurate colors. Just because I know you give Best AQ to releases with original audio, which is a purist sensibility that I appreciate. And thought that the compromise could be to note the original look of the film. Just a suggestion, I know it's your thread and don't want you to feel like I'm trying to impose something on you.

I don't agree with you on the Best PQ.
