Nope, the DE release of The Sixth Sense is one of those early Constantin disc's with DTS-HD High-Res Audio.

Well, dang, I had Googled to try to figure it out but between a lossy core and yet lossless delivery if your amp supports it ... I got so confused I had to go back and Google lossy & lossless to double check. Even on my sad system I sense a "live presence" with lossless that I don't get with lossy - or do I have that bass-ackwards again?

The PQ upgrade more than makes up for it.

Wasn't there a technical problem with the audio on some early pressings of The Sixth Sense? I remember you had to import the UK discs to avoid pops in the rear channels on some receivers.

That's Unbreakable. AFAIK the pops were never fixed on the US disc. I own the UK disc myself.

Anyone here know anything about the AQ/PQ quality of the Japanese "Shootest"? The site only lists one owner and s/he hasn't answered an email. I'd hate to pay big bucks only to wind up with an upconverted DVD.

Update on the DE Hackers: I can confirm, despite the "B" on the back of the cover, that this release is region-free (ABC). The extras match the US release except on the DE disc the trailer only has German audio. I know there has been some debate about the English 5.1 track but to me it sounds wonderful. Again I cannot vouch for the theatrical authenticity but the surround effect was noticeable and sounded fine.

Does anyone have the Carlotta release of Velvet Goldmine to compare with the US Lionsgate? The Carlotta release, from what I've gathered, is from a 2K restoration, whereas the Lionsgate looks like it may be just the DVD master upscaled. I'm also trying to determine whether the Carlotta release has the slightly longer cut of the film.

If anyone does have it, the extended scenes are described here: http://www.dvdexotica.com/2014/12/ve...reign-cut.html

And I expect the most easily identifiable differences are:
[Show spoiler]79:00 We see Collette walk out of the studio. She's surprised to see Meyers throw open the window above her, and then McGregor rush past her out the other door. The US version starts on the shot of McGregor directly after he's rushed by her, and then shows Meyers throwing open the window, and misses the initial shot of Collette walking out, followed by an amusing few seconds of the window falling back down on Meyers back while he's leaning out of it.
85:00 Collette walks through Meyers' disheveled office, the floor covered in newspapers, before she comes upon him and his lover on the mattress, which is where the US version starts the scene.

FWIW, by the raw stats standard of the catalog post, the Carlotta release is better, according to stats from DVDBeaver and retro-HD. The Carlotta release has nearly double the file size for the movie.

What Women Want
US - N/A
UK - AVC 1.78:1 17997 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2118 kbps 16-bit, English subs (Region free)
DE - AVC 1.85:1 31993 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 3408 kbps 24-bit, no English subs (Region B) Best PQ

The listing for “What Women Want” should include the Region A Japan release which I just bought and watched. Not being RF, I couldn’t check out the DE release for comparison, but the JP release might be no more than an upconverted DVD (or maybe I expected too much ). In any case, this one could really use a remastering for a US release. I wish it looked as sharp as it's BRDC cover shot. It’s a good little movie from back when Gibson was seen as a nice guy (the “Making Of” is a real hoot for that reason alone - not sure you could find five folks saying such things these days).

Yes, but the software HD uses is ... a bit costly, especially for something I have no real need for.
