Awesome! This is an awesome thread! When I go to caps-a-holic, what am I exactly looking for when comparing 2 different releases? A lot of times if the bitrate is higher, then that release is superior right? I know for Mill Creek titles I pretty much always try to get a different one, whether it is an older studio's release or another countries one. Also, as much as I value picture quality, I would actually still choose a release with slightly less picture quality if the audio is better (i prefer 5.1 lossless over 2.0 for my theater so I can take advantage of my full home theater system for instance).

The Eureka is inferior to the Twilight Time disc:
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x...1&l=1&i=5&go=1 https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x...2&l=1&i=6&go=1 https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...3&l=1&i=7&go=1 Also, the Eureka includes a poor mono, in a "dual mono" container, down-mix (not a vintage/dedicated mix but a down-mix of the TT 5.1) of the film's four-track stereo mix (sidenote: the DTS-HD MA 2.0 track listed in the TT is for the isolated score and not a 2.0 stereo downmix). The French "L'atelier d'images" UHD release of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead comes with a new 1080p disc sourced from the 4K master. It's also available separately, but the extras disc is only included with the UHD.
I found some screencaps from this disc online and I honestly think it looks a bit better compared to the Anchor Bay and Sony releases. I made an album here, I feel like the grain management is better on this one. You can find caps from the other editions on caps-a-holic, obviously. I found the disc info as well so here goes: The Evil Dead US - AVC 26851 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 1155 kbps 16-bit, 1.33 and 1.85 versions, extras, English subs (Region A locked) DE(2017) - AVC 27000 kbps, DTS-HD MA 2.0 (mono) 1518 kbps 24-bit & DTS Core 5.1 1509 kbps 24-bit, 1.33 and 1.85 versions, most extras, English subs (Region B locked) UK/ES/IT/AU/SE/FI/NO/DK/FR(2010) - AVC 26903 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 1952 16-bit, only 1.85 version, extras, English subs (Region free) FR(2020) - AVC 19980 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 1951 kbps 16-bit, only 1.33 version, no extras, no English subs (Region B locked) I may have gone overboard with the info but you can trim it down if you feel like it's worth adding to the list. Minor detail-the “extended” IS the theatrical. It was stupidly cut down for VHS |
