Has anyone see any of The Iceman releases on blu-ray? I have read the books and seen the interviews so wouldn't mind picking the best transfer available if there is such a thing for this release.

I have the U.S. release from Millennium and it seems fine to me.

Will the U.K release from Lionsgate use the same transfer as the U.S release from Millennium?

My review of the UK disc is here, if you want to have a look: http://film.thedigitalfix.com/conten...he-iceman.html

In short: the video quality is typical Lionsgate shite, it's been mastered with the gamma far too low and there's lots of banding.

I'll avoid this then

HD, I assume that the US disc is different to this?

I would think so, but I am not certain.

Black Rain

US version appears to be lossy audio and DE version appears to have a lossless track based on this page https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Black...Blu-ray/13164/

The Japanese versions tend to be really good and there is one for sale on Amazon.jp but I can't find any info on that one, anyone know if its a superior version to the US one?

The Black Rain Special Collector’s edition has both English: Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 EX & English: DTS-ES 6.1 (24-bit, 1509 kbps). I’m not sure about the DD+, but I’m fairly certain that the DTS-ES 6.1 track is lossless - although I'll leave that up to more knowledgeable folks to confirm.

The US release has no issues with banding from my recollection.

The DTS track included on the US disc is not a lossless track.

What this film really needs for there to be a definitive version, is a brand new transfer.

Yeah, the lossy audio is the least of its problems, it's another overly processed POS from Paramount. The grain just sits there, frozen in place.

Ok, that's too bad about Black Rain, was hoping there was a hidden Japanese gem out there as sometimes is the case

Is the Poland Theatrical Cut and the Theatrical Cut on the HD-DVD the same master? I own the HD-DVD but I don't think I've ever watched it all the way through. It does look noticeably different than the US Blu-ray Director's Cut I own though.

I like the extended scenes in the Director's Cut but really dislike most of the soundtrack changes they made.
