I didn't check if it's actually region B locked.

Also, it looks like it isn't cropped. Here's a comparison (UK shot I took vs DE shot from caps-a-holic.com): http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/116051
DE looks better. UK have some nasty compression issues and some red color tint if you look at the left darker side. Wonder how the JP disc fares.

Is the audio a real 7.1 mix or just a simple upmix as some Scandinavians discs?

Can someone help me with ONG BAK releases?

Quote:
Ong Bak
US - AVC 25310 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2889 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Region A locked)
FR - AVC 19210 kbps, DTS-HD HR 5.1 2046 kbps 16-bit, FR cut, no eng subs (Region B)
HK - AVC 17995 kbps, LPCM 7.1 6144 kbps 16-bit, FR cut, English subs (Region A)
I'd like to know if the HK disc has the same PQ as the french one.
Or if it looks ugly like the US / DE disc.

Thanks for your help!

Another one for the list HD.

Astronaut Farmer, The:
US - No Release
DE - AVC OAR 2.35:1, English Dolby Digital 5.1, German Subs

It appears to be region free, although the site says its A/B with C untested. I'll check my copy when it gets here next month.

Lets see how this one fares

Interstellar
US - No release yet (Paramount)
EU - AVC 24222 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 3693 kbps 24-bit, English subs (Warner)

Europe have Warner encode, US/CA gets Paramount. Hope for higher bitrate since all extras are on a separate BD

Maps to the Stars
US - No release yet (14th April)
FR - AVC 28515 kbps 1080i/25fps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 3552 kbps 24-bit, no English subs
UK - AVC 29560 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 24-bit, English subs (Region B locked)

I wanted to ask something about Talented Mr. Ripley:

1) Is the UK Optimum Bluray the same with the German Studio Canal Bluray?
(it says in the review of the Optimum one that the transfer is Studio Canal)
2) I see the reviews here favour the US Bluray, but here in this thread it says the German Bluray has better PQ. Seeing the caps-a-holic comparisons I agree that the German looks better grain-wise. But it's darker and more blurry than the US
(eg. look at the watch http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich).
So, what is the general verdict from most forum members?
Is the German better?

In terms of PQ, the US disc is waaaay better if you ask me

http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich

But I could have linked several other caps (#7 for instance and several others too).

I owned the french and after that the german discs and both looked like sh**.
I'm very happy I got the US disc to replace them.

Still looking for a gentleman with an opinion about the HK transfer of Ong Bak

(my french disc is affected by the "french blu-ray disease" so I'm trying to find an acceptable compromise to replace it).

Yes, except for Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but you'll never find the JP disc for a reasonable price. I have the DE myself and I think the MPEG-2 encode looks good.

Be careful with that title it is known to be affected by the "french blu-ray disease". Not all the discs, but still, it's kind of a lottery. I'd suggest you'd wait.

Why do you want to import Nowhere to Run? The US disc is good enough to me.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm in the UK so importing Nowhere to Run will probably work out cheaper for me.

I have heard about the "French disc disease" but didn't know this was one of the problem discs. Do you know if there is a list on here with the problem discs listed? I have a few French imports and can't bring myself to test them
