I did have it preordered, but cancelled at the last minute. I own the Nordic disc and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Bitrate be damned. Same goes for the xXx re-release out next week.

How's the PQ on the French release of Chicken Run anyone? Wondering how it compares to the German release.

Not sure about PQ either, both AVC-encoded, 1.78 AR and both fitted on a Single Layer, there's most likely no groundbreaking difference (if any) on bitrate/ amount of extrast.

Confirmed difference though, the French disc has no EN subs and features DTS-HD MA 5.1 English Audio vs. HD MA 6.1 EN track on DE disc.
Prolly more important, the FR disc is region free.

Theres also a bundle available distributed by Twentieth Century Fox (region free as well)

That's absolutely correct, sry my bad!
Obviously one of the cases the disc was announced B-locked by Universum and bluray.de hasn't changed that entry yet,
http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...n-blu-ray-disc

I just reported, will be fixed. It's def. region free, also mentioned on backcover, thanks the heads up

Thanks very much for this. There are supplements here that aren't on the U.S. DVD. Particularly noteworthy is that iso score track on the German disc. HD Goof, can you please confirm (since, Tuco, I take it you don't own the disc but are referring to supps listed on German review sites?). The reason I ask is because, technically, "die musikaufnahmen" doesn't directly translate to/mean 'isolated score track' . . . right, mein herr?

And, most importantly, why wasn't the Screaming Chicken Panic Button supplement included?!

Haha, very right in deed, sir! I wouldn't translate the featurette "Die Musikaufnahmen" to "Isolated Score" either, but I see it sure looked that way.
Now that nfo's been posted on ofdb, a disc owner mentions this 3rd track:

Quote:
Deutsch (DTS-HD 6.1)
Englisch (DTS-HD 6.1)
Audiokommentar (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo)
Musik/Instrumental (Dolby TrueHD 6.1)
http://www.ofdb.de/view.php?page=fas...520&vid=315987

Better off HD Goof checking it out though, this 3rd track is not listed on cover and I doubt it's sort of an Easter Egg. Now, I sincerely hope I confused you enough for one day , my apologies.

As for your initial question, I asked via email if Pathé/Universum used the same encode for their release, since there's obviously no owner of the FR disc around.

The 14 user reviews at bluray.de go rather with HD Goof's impression, scoring an average PQ 4.3/5
Those reviewers tend to be rather picky over there (no pun), especially concerning sharpness. Personally, I'm yet to watch a cartoon with "impressive" PQ anyway, but that's just my perception.

How does the DE/UK release measure up? It has >32000 kbps bitrate and uses AVC codec. It's hard for me to tell conclusively, but it seems the grain is more pronounced on the US disc. Is that because of sharpening on US disc or DNR on DE/UK disc?

DE/UK is better than US. Although exact same transfer but healthier bitrate so on larger screens you could get a little better detail because of the lesser compression.

Well, I rented a copy years ago, so perhaps the rental version is worse?
I don't know. I see they also give it 4-5/5 over at Bluray-disc.de, so maybe I should give it another go. Also, I think my version only had an English DD track.

I really like the film, so I'll look into it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The: The Beginning (2006)
US - AVC 21881 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 3932 kbps 24-bit, theatrical cut, extras, English subs (Region Free)
CA - AVC 19569 kbps, 1080i60, DTS-HD MA 5.1 3360 kbps 24-bit, director's cut, no extras, no English subs (Region A locked)
FR - AVC 29998 kbps, DTS-HD MA 5.1 1912 kbps, no English subs, director's cut, no extras, no English subs (Region B locked)

On this it should be noted that those who wants the better longer cut also get much better PQ on the FR disc compared to the CA. So I suggest Best PQ stamp on FR.

Any word yet on how the new US 'Spirited Away' stacks up against the JP versions?
