Does anyone know if EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC is available in a better transfer from the WB North American release on BD?
I've seen a portions of a streaming one that is better.

Meh, it only cost a tenner shipped with my points.

Anyway, it's the exact same Pony Canyon disc as previously. There's nothing Paramount related on the disc, just the artwork.

Some helpful info about this disc:

1. It's uncut. The Nordic disc, has the head-butt censored as per the UK release.

2. It has proper burned in English subs for the foreign dialogue.

3. It's Region Free.

4. Only extra is a trailer.

My blunder paid off, lol

Now what about the Czech release? Would this be the same as the Nordic/UK one?

I can check when I get home, but perhaps you may already know.

It should match the Russian disc, which I haven't seen.

Ok, I'll do a scan of it later today and report the specs if they are any different. Thanks!

Why do you exclude the french disc?

(even the ES disc looks better in several screens on your link, so it's why I ask)

You mean Best PQ on FR also or? The FR disc isn't on caps yet, that's why. Yes in some shots ES looks better I agree but sometimes I wonder if it's real "more" detail like this one or just bad encoding/noise?

Don't you remember that DarknessBDJM posted screencaps on a thread we both read a few years ago?

What transfer did the ES version of Pan's Labyrinth get? Im basically looking for the UK transfer but with the US audio. The ES appears to have the same audio track as the US but is it the same transfer. Im thinking about buying the UK steelbook but im not in love with 5.1 16 bit sound.

A few years? I'm old now, can't remember such things Please add best PQ if you are sure the FR uses the same transfer and similar bitrate as the DE disc I linked to.

ahah

Well, I'm not sure, I only have the FR disc. According to DarknessBDJM, it seems ES and FR are similar.
But what I was really contesting is the "best PQ" notation for the DE disc.
According to all the screenshots I've seen from the various releases of the movie and then watching my FR disc, it really seems to me that it's a wrong assessment and I don't know where it's coming from.

Even that difference from 16 to 24-bit is padded zeros and the masters are 16-bit?

Depends.....is that the case? Also 7.1 Why wouldn't this movie be mastered with 24 bit audio. Hasn't that been standard since 2003 or so?

Rick Grimes says the 6.1 track found on the Australian and Japanese discs of Spirited Away are superior:

However, I have listened to both the 5.1 DTS-HD (UK release) and 6.1 DTS-HD (found on the Australian release) and the 6.1 is more aggressive and utilises each speaker channel more effectively (eg. When the father drives fast along the path at the start, in the 5.1 track, the Dad's voice is somewhere between the centre channel and the front right, while on the 6.1 the Dad's voice comes solely from the front right speaker). When sounds crosses the rear channels, the sound moves perfectly, succinctly and effortlessly across the rear.

If you can play Region B discs and can get a hold of the Australian release, I highly recommend the 6.1 Japanese DTS-HD MA (Discrete ES) audio (or perhaps the Japanese release… Which also contains the 6.1 DTS-HD track). Especially if you watch Spirited Away often. The 6.1 Japanese track rocks.

Yeah the ES have some big errors on the picture. Look at the top, double lines and the "not" round star to the left.
