I noticed you have District 9 from Japan. Did you find it better from there? Any noticeable difference in depth of the soundtrack, since I know that one had a very nice deep end.
I've held off buying that one a while given all the new blomkamp packages.

Thank you so much for this. It was not listed on blu-ray.com so I didn't know what the audio and subtitles options were available.
I needed to upgrade it as my french BD died on me (being manufactured by a company who screwed up a lot of french BD). I ordered the Belgium disc but it looked like crap.
Then, I tried to order the UK disc but after 2 replacements over at Amazon, I quit. The first time, one of the 2 discs was loose inside the case and the second time, it was sealed but certainly not "new" as both discs were full of fingerprints and one of them was scratched. (I hate that when they refurbished items)
Sky Captain - I'm about to. I looked on the master list here though and I'm just trying to understand how to interpret the audio data? I'm not to hip on the bitrates and stuff.
Sort of same thing with the incredible hulk. That one has an amazing sound track on the US disc, but I'm scared the audio is different?

Yeah JP District is a must for the better PQ. Got the JP Gray, might not be worth it for most. When I bought it I thought it would have better PQ but that is the same I would say.
While we talk about Grey here are an update. Might be temped to buy the nordic disc so someone could add it to a comparison. Since the movie is very grainy maybe it can be better with even higher bitrate? Seems nordic only have deleted scenes as extras though.

Concerning AQ. If you see a title with 4,000 Kbps and 24 bit on the list, how would you compare it with the same title with 2,000 Kbps and 16 bit? Would things like the bass be affected?

It all depends on what the source is, 16 or 24-bit but "most" say you have a hard time hearing a real difference. And no bitrate won't matter on lossless.
But if you have a good system and watch newer movies I don't see a reason to choose a 16-bit disc if it's available as 24 elsewhere just to be sure you don't get a worse experience. Sometimes countries like Japan and the nordic countries uses 16-bit for audio and often you get higher PQ bitrate instead. And sometimes they pad(upsample) a 16-bit track to 20 or 24-bit just because they can with no benefit.

Most modern, big-budget Hollywood films are recorded and mixed at 24-bit/48 kHz quality. That isn't true the further back in time you go. Anything higher is likely upsampled, like you see on many Asian versions of Hollywood films.

Any difference that a human would be able to hear should be due to differences other than the bit depth. With a proper 24 to 16 conversion, there should be no difference at all.

It's the French text that puts me off, (I had the French HD DVD back in the day). Another reason I was glad to replace the French Doomsday disc with the JP release.

I have all the French discs. The picture/audio quality is good. The fourth doesn't have the 7.1 audio that the US disc does.

I have a remux of Underworld Evolution that has identical specs to the FR disc, but the opening scrawl is in English and there are hardcoded English subs in the handful of spots with non-ENG dialog. Additionally, it is 23.976 instead of 24.00, which is actually quite easy to change. I've been looking for it's source for quite some time, but haven't found definitive answers. The PQ is considerably better than both the US & JP discs.

How's the JP release compare to the FR disc, aside from the French location text? I've noticed a difference in gamma/brightness on the FR disc as compared to the US one.
