Meh.

I was hoping for a price drop for the 75Z9D. The 65" has come down but the 75" is still full price ever since launch.

In case anyone is worried about fake news, second source:

Been given a demo of Dolby Vision on Sony A1 @UHD4k OLED TV earlier this week... looked fab. Sony say they will announce the actual firmware release timeframe for X1 Extreme TVs (ZD9, XE93, XE94, A1) in December, yay! My first-floor video incoming.

Can't wait, but it tickles me that we've gotta wait until December just to get an announcement of the timeframe of the rollout

At least it looks like it will happen.

My last TV was the Samsung 78JS9500 ($10,000). Samsung promised the TV's Set-Top-Box will be upgraded in the future to keep the TV almost future proof (for at least awhile). That up-grade promise was why I purchased the JS9500.

That never happened and it looks like it never will. I promised I would never buy another Samsung. Therefore, my new Sony and Boy, am I happy I made the switch and waiting for the DV upgrade which I truly feel will happen.

Nice to hear any sort of announcement, ordered an XE93 yesterday while not quite as nice as its Z and 94 cousins am still looking forward to joining the club. I expect to be doing some dorky DV comparisons between the x93 and the c6 in the near future.

CES is just around the corner. I would be surprised if Sony do not announce at least one DV capable player.

Did you even read the quote I replied to? Had nothing to do with CES...

I know but I was just making an assumption in general (and pointing out the obvious ).

Best Buy had my order ready a day early and picked up the xe93 earlier today. Have only been able to briefly check out a few UHD discs so far - Pan, Atomic Blonde, Life of Pi. First and foremost, apologies if already mentioned, but I thought there was something wrong with my TV because I immediately noticed some sort of weird looking banding artifacting in the black letterbox bars, most prominently with Atomic Blonde at the start of ch2. Was like wtf. Was using mostly default cinema pro settings (will calibrate later) and it turns out that the smooth gradation setting on low was causing the problem, turning it off made the letterbox bar banding go away. Sigh of relief. To quickly sum it up am liking what am seeing particularly in brighter parts of the image where less of it is being clipped (compared to the oled) and more detail being shown such as the sun in Pan. Good stuff.

Yeah, you really don't need to have any of those picture processing things on at all. Smooth gradation in particular has its uses for 1080p BDs that have heavy banding (so pretty much anything from Lionsgate) but it's largely unnecessary for 4K.

I've left mine on Low since I got it, after reading D-Nice's and others comments on it. I have not noticed any negative effects, but I have seen it remove some banding in testing.

I considered cutting it off when I watch 4K blu-ray, but once again, never noticed anything "wrong". Chad B will be here Thursday, can't wait to get all the mode's calibrated up, Ill ask and see if he has heard anything either way with it on.

I prob watch 15-20 hours a week of 1080i/720p/UHD streaming, and 2 hours a week of blu-ray, and thats mostly why I just leave it on.

Hmmm. Even if something is not apparently having a deleterious effect that doesn't mean it should just be left on. This is just the reviewer in me talking but first up I've got to see the image as unmolested as possible, and only once I've taken it in would I decide to use SG on any further viewing of that content, like the aforementioned shitty Lionsgate Blu-rays.

It's worth noting that Vincent's reiteration of Sony's belief in keeping APL high at the expense of highlights applies just as much to their current LCDs as it does to their OLEDs, the higher-nit LCDs just clip at a higher point in the range.
