A: We have firmware that supports Sony’s implementation of Dolby Vision in its TVs. The firmware is undergoing testing by Dolby right now. We hope to make it available to customers as soon as the test concludes that there is no problem with existing Dolby Vison-capable TVs as well as Sony TVs."
I read that earlier this morning and it is some silver lining in the wake of the bad news of them closing their doors.

Honestly been more than pleased with the player and the Z without Dolby Vision, so this is an added bonus.

They said it was coming and I've never had a reason to doubt that. As with any big update it'll take time to properly assess, not only for what it does do but what it doesn't do, and that a third party is intrinsically involved with that process will also add to the turnaround time. However, that it's with Dolby for testing is most encouraging nonetheless.

Anyone having trouble with what looks like a quick signal loss since the last update? The screen will go black for a second and then come back immediately?

Guys over at AVS are calling this the "black flash" issue, and mostly seeing it via Directv satellite. This issue was also occurring on the 940E (which I have) after the release. Supposedly the recent release 82NAA fixed the "black flash" issue. I downloaded it this past weekend and have no black screen issues so far.

I haven't updated my TVs yet but in the past few weeks I haven't encountered the issue anymore. It is very inconsistent on my 75Z9D, sometimes it was there a couple of times in a row, sometimes I don't have it at all. Strange thing is I have never seen it on my 65" and they're both on the same firmware.

On another note:

A Z9F and A9F.

Posted on AVS, not my picture.

Apparently someone over at AVS made a screenshot of this page on the Sony site before it was changed. Z9F and A9F are not listed anymore now:

I get a new Zed, but do not see a point to an A9F. The 8 has a 2018 panel, the 9 will have a 2018 panel, no miracles to be worked in OLED each year since LGD supplies everyone.

Remembering what the A1E cost on launch, and seeing what it goes for now, I'll happily keep my A8F order on track. I would assume the X1 Ultimate arrives, but not worth the price alone. The Zed is due for an "upgrade", but, what can they do to make it better and how much will it cost? A 65" ZD9 is going for great pricing right now.

Interesting leak on Sony's site! I would speculate we'll see the Z9F and hopefully a second tier OLED A9F with the new Ultimate Extreme processor and some other upgrades and enhancements.

Likely we'll see these new mid-year series TVs introduced at IFA Berlin, Germany on Sept 2nd and CEDIA, San Diego, CA on Sept 5th. Maybe even a surprise press conference from Sony sooner.

The ZD9's gamut coverage isn't anything special and the 65" panel can be prone to black smearing in colder conditions (75" is apparently a lot better). Get both of those things sorted, add in some more zones if possible to bump the brightness and widen the tone mapping out to accommodate it and it'd be well worth the cash. If it had Dolby Vision that actually worked with a disc player then that'd be a hell of a bonus too!

I'm very happy with my 940E after the download of release 82NAA. It got rid of my horizontal banding issues on vertical panning shots. I too am curious about the Z9F though

So they finally got rid of the horizontal bands? Absolutely no more to be seen especially during HDR? That's really great to hear! I'm banned from the AVS 940E owner's thread so I didn't know. I wonder though if Sony also released a firmware for the X940D which had the same problem... Oh well, that won't make a difference for me now anymore.

You're forgetting a certain number that's followed by a certain letter, then it would be worth the cash...

Don't feel bad, I got temporarily banned from that thread as well ...... until I spoke with a reasonable moderator who looked at what was going on and realized that one individual, whom I am sure you know, was attempting to shut down all discussion in that thread about settings and issues many of us were experiencing. Dude has a bad history of that type of behavior. He wanted the thread to be a "fan boy" hangout

Don't know if I can say it 100% got rid of the horizontal bands, but "if" any show up now they are so light and infrequent as to be a non-issue. At least that's my experience. YMMV

Yeah well, since I wasn't a 940E owner anyway I just left it at that. I had some good feedback from several critical X940D owners though, at the time I was having trouble with Sony over the horizontal (HDR) banding/lines issue on that particular model. At that point I also came into contact with a couple of 940E owners, who told me they were experiencing the same issue on their sets. Your username seems familiar, perhaps you were one of them?

Anyway I hope more Z9F info will leak before IFA starts at the end of August.

hilarious I went through over half a dozen 940es trying to get one without that issue before finally giving up. sony engineering kept telling me "i expected too much out of the panel". best buy kept telling me there was "nothing wrong" and customers were "thought the open box resales were perfectly fine".

I was like no freaking way fellas.
