Need some serious help.

BestBuy Magnolia delivered and installed at our home yesterday a new 65 inch Z9D.

They did the Z9D Firmware update. I then did the firmware update for my OPPO 203. The DV features appeared in both the Z9D and OPPO 203.

I put in DV Disc Ready Player One into the Oppo.
Then DV Badge appeared on the Z9D.

The DV movie appeared very lacking in color, dynamics, dark shadings, and specular highlights. Essentially no HDR.

Are there special settings thats needs to be set on the OPPO 203 for playing DV discs. The OPPO is attached to Z9D's HDMI 2 or 3, the full bandwidth ports rated I believe 18 Gbps.

There are some very smart Z9D owners on this Thread. Please help.

I have some 30-50 DV disc that plays fine with Bright colors, rich dark shading tones, Very bright specular hightlights on my LG OLED. Showing the Dolby Vision badge on the display.

I did try several DV disc onto the Z9D. Nothing works right regards to HDR.
For troubleshooting purposes, try forcing HDR10 within the Oppo settings and reboot. Use same movie that was dull and compare it with HDR10.

Right? If we can't actually discuss exactly what the thread is about then what can we discuss in here, the weather?

How do you force HDR10? Which setting...

HDR Setting

HDR [*Auto*| Forced | Off (BT.709) | Off (BT.2020) | Strip Metadata | Dolby Vision]

Is Forced forcing DV or HDR10?

HOW do you reboot? Do you reboot after making the HDR Setting change above?

BTW, using another brand DV disc player with HDR10 only disc produced spectacular PQ on the Z9D. Bringing up the HDR Badge. I credit the Outstanding HDR10 PQ(very DV-like) to the Z9D.

Dude, just turn off the Dolby Vision in the player!! Set it to AUTO and you'll get DV from DV discs and HDR10 from HDR10 discs. If you set it to FORCED and power off the player, it plays DV in HDR10 (and HDR10 in HDR10, in case that needed stating) when you next power it back up.

I will try.

Power off as in unplugging the AC Core? Or pressing OPPO 203 remotes OFF BUTTON.

Which way is considered Rebooting.

He needs SDR and HDR TV settings for Cinema Pro and Home, and DV.
Coming from an OLED he has no idea what the Sony Z9D needs.

I'm presuming you gave him that and what, a MOD deleted it?

He said that everything was playing in DV on the ZD9 and noted that he'd set HDR to Dolby Vision on the OPPO. That's half the problem right there. And it would still be nice to know what settings he's actually using for HDR10 and DV...

Thank you everyone.

Setting the OPPO HDR as forced gives spectacular results.
DV Ready Player One will display the HDR10 version. Changing HDR to Auto will display the Dolby Vision version.
Which the DV version was'nt great.

My experience concurrs with HDTVtest Vincent's review of the Sony Master Series AF9.
Where he saids until new Firmwares comes out____ play your DV disc in HDR10 format. For Sony's plays HDR10 like HDR10+ now.

I will be watching my many DV discs with the Oppo HDR set to Forced. And not use OPPO HDR set to Auto which gives me the DV version.

What settings on the Z9D do you guys use if you watch the DV version played from OPPO 203. I tried a lot of Z9D settings for DV. But had no luck getting great PQ like I do with the HDR10 version.

Heh. In rtings' review of the ZF9 they did a side by side dimming comparison with the ZF9 (top right), ZD9 (top left), Vizio P Series Quantum (bottom left) and Samsung Q9FN (bottom right).

The ZD9 has darker blacks than the ZF9 or the Vizio coupled with the least blooming around the crawl out of all four sets, and while the Samsung's blacks are even better it's losing a great deal of vibrancy with the stars aside from those in the centre portion of the screen, and some stars at the edges are being crushed away completely.

ZD9: still the baddest mother****er in the room when it comes to LCD. Accept no substitutes.

Yeah. I see people asking if the Z9F is a worthwhile upgrade from the Z9D... and as much as I love my Z9F, I also came from a 2016 M series Vizio. I feel like I traded my Honda in for a Ferrari. But those who have a Z9D already? Stick with it!

It's all relative dude. The ZF9 is still a storming TV, better than the ZD9 in several respects but the ZD9 has other attributes which I value more highly. Even then its excellence comes at a price, what with the black smearing I get when the TV is cold, but I just gots to live with it until the TV dies or I find something better.

Tell me something new.

It's too bad the 100" model is "a bit" out of my price range. I would have easily given up on front projection in favour of that monster.

All of these reviews, tests, impressions and measurements just reinforce my suspicion that Sony are gearing up for their first miniLED/microLED (more likely miniLED) consumer displays to take the place of their flagship LCDs, with a nice big pricetag to go along with them. Either that or they've become so enamored with OLED that they just can't be bothered to make beasts like the ZD9 anymore. Hopefully 2019 has some nice surprises in store that aren't OLED related.

I keep seeing these conspiracy theories but I think they just figured out along the way they can’t launch another $7000+ flagship tv. Nobody would be asking themselves right now if the Z9D would be right for them if it was still at its launch price.

I think if you had a nice home theater and some free popcorn you could probably charge people to watch movies on a 100" ZD9 and get returning customers

I learned something on our new Z9D.

At our home the Warrior Queen gets zero degree seating.

Me. Appx 35 degrees to the Z9D.

At Vivid PM custom settings our Black Level is default at 50.

If I lowered the Black Level to 32... Its, PQ, looked nearly as good as what the Fighting Queen sees at Black Level 50.

Thats like X-Wide magic of Z9F fame.

Interesting at Black Level 38-39 the All Mighty Powerful Queen's PQ view at zero degrees looks almost like what I see at appx 35 degrees to our Z9D.

Hmmmm. Next time When the Battle Queen is upstairs sleeping Im going to set the Black level to 38. And act Dumb the next day if she asks do our TV looks a Little Different. I would'nt want to be put in the Dungeon again in our own Castle.

A little from column A, a little from column B IMO. Whether those other LED variants are ready to rumble or not, Sony have already got another fully-formed premium tech to focus on so they have no need to keep hunting that whale when it comes to pushing regular LCD to the limit (high price tag included), they really don't. I think the ZD9 is the last of its kind.

Vivid with custom settings can look close to default Cinema Home. Actually that Cinema Home looks brighter. Default Standard PM Brightness blows our Vivid Custom PM Brightness away.
