Low Latency DV in Sony TVs means that DV Software is Lite.

So most of the DV workhorse duties must be done by the Source Media Player. Like x700, Oppo 203.*
Lite as in less coding instructions.

Yikes those settings sound awful!

If that’s what you use no wonder you think DV is dim, since it’s accurate and you’ve messed with the image.

I use DV on my three different Sony sets and have yet to see anything dim.

My statement was

Quote:
AT DV PM___Brightness Max, Contrast Max, Gamma 0, Black 50, adv contrast enhancer high, XDR high still dim compared to HDR10 on Z9D.

for HDR10, in Cinema Home or Cinema Pro (take your pick), Brightness should be MAX, Contrast should be 88 - 91 (per your own Black area detail liking). and XDR = Max.
You still haven't told us WHICH picture mode you are using?
C'mon, we can't help you if you don't tell us the whole 'picture'.
If it's Vivid, just confirm it.

We're pretty sure that's what you used on your OLED, and why you're frame of reference is out of whack.

VIVID, Ah, okay, I got it now. E6, wish we could help you get used to what Cinema Pro looks like. It's very much what a Theatrical cinema presentation is like for my tastes.

Yeah, Vivid is awfully inaccurate.

I use Cinema Home on my 930E and Z9D and then Cinema Pro on my A1E. (Both Cinema modes are the same as long as you make the contrast adjustment but I had the Z professionally calibrated then I took D-Nice's settings for the A1E, hence the different modes.)

Nice and Bright. Look at the video demo's.

Over 2850 Nits Peak Brightness. On a 10% window.

Actually
When I stream VUDU DV Movies with my ChromeCast Ultra attached to my Onkyo TX-RZ830 AVR to my Z9D via HDMI 2 (Allowing VUDU DV and Atmos 5.1.4)...

I use Z9D Cinema Home in dark room. I use Cinema Pro when I am seated at 35 degrees(settings to give Cinema Home PQ but with Black Level at 46, Black Adjust high in dark room). When our TV Room is well Lamp Lit... I use Z9D Custom picture mode.

All the above not at PM Defaults.

During Daylight I use Vivid PM with lots settings changes. Settings not what you see at Best Buy Show areas. Essentially what I strive for are the PQ Elements seen at Best Buy but corrected for my at Daylight TV room.

All those DV PM's formentioned are not Dim. And are as bright as in Vincent's 100 inch Z9D video demos above.

But when I play DV Discs from a Disc Player in DV mode to the Z9D every DV disc movie is Dim by comparison. Even at Default Vivid PM.

And if I play a HDR10 Disc to the Z9D everything is Spectacular. As Vincent Teoh states... HDR10 Disc to Z9D( Vincent said "Sony's" by his wording) is NOW like HDR10+.

Sheesh. I never use Vivid for ANYTHING.

SD/HD at any time of day = Cinema Pro
HDR = Cinema Home
DV mode settings are close to Cinema Home.

It sounds like you have a wrong setting somewhere still (perhaps in the Oppo).

Side Note-

some here on this thread are near ready to move up to 75 inch. Maybe giving their 65 Z to family or place it in another room.

So its game time now for Z lovers. Especially with the 75 Z9D availablilty getting so low. As Sony stopped making them?

If you wanna a 75 Z9D Buy soon. Or you can wait(with time Ticking Fast) to read the 75 Z9F's reviews first.

The first 75 review just out. Compare your features of choice. Which 75 Z is best for your family and viewing room.

I'm 51 minutes into the movie right now, and so far I have not seen any "exaggerated haloing" like you mentioned. All lights off, dark room, no bias light whatsoever.

I did notice some haloing during the opening credits when the letters and pumpkin appear on screen, but I wouldn't call it troublesome. Also during some daytime scenes, whenever there are portions of the sky (which is very bright) near the black bars, they do elevate just a little bit. Night time scenes might have some elevated black bars too if you're really looking for it, but otherwise it (the picture between the bars) looked absolutely fine to me. So if I may, let me say it again, the 65Z9D is no OLED. You'll always have some elevated black levels (however minimal) in the black bars and during very critical content (all dark/black screen with bright object in front) with HDR.

I watched the scene in which Laurie and Annie are smoking in the car twice. During the second time, I only looked at the black bars while ocassionally pausing the movie. The brightest object in that scene is the metallic strip around the front window (don't know what it's called in English). The letterbox bars are not perfectly black here, in some parts they are slighty elevated. If I pause exactly at 0:32:09, and then put my hand before that metallic strip (basically blocking what's on screen in the upper left corner underneath the upper black bar), I then can see a little bit of blooming/clouding into the upper left portion of the upper black bar. But obviously this is not the way you are watching a movie, and trust me, I felt pretty stupid doing that.

So either you have eagle vision and are very sensitive to this, or you're expecting too much of an OLED performance regarding this matter. Or, and I hate to say this, perhaps there just might be something wrong with your set after all if it is really that noticable like you say it is...

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to stop looking for faults and try to enjoy what's left of the movie. But seriously, I hope you'll be able to sort out the issues you are having...
Thank you for your test. No, I'm seeing elevated blacks as well in daytime scenes. Nighttime scenes are a different story. The black bars stay black. I'm assuming this is the transfer and not my set.

Wait... You are getting DV through chromecast ultra??? How's this possible. Didn't work on my x930e, but I haven't tried in my z9d yet. I get netflix with a purple hue due to the DV codec not working properly. I don't think the CCU is compatible with Sony's DV profile. Is it working on yours?

Honestly, why would one spend that much on that set and not get it professionally calibrated (no, Geek Squad doesn't count since they are not ISF certified) is beyond me.

Those could be observations from literally anyone with a basic understanding of picture modes...

Cinema = accurate to creator's intent
Vivid = retail torch mode for people who prefer pop at the great expense of accuracy

Nothing wrong with people preferring the pop at the expense of an inaccurate image, just a shame to see it happen on a flagship TV built with accuracy in mind.
