Thanks Geoff, I understand and agree. I was just adding more information on Sony's history of using passive and active 3D technology.

Tried Ant-Man 3D today and much less crosstalk and was limited to the sides of the screen. A decent presentation. I wish there was more control over the 3D presentation than just depth.

Is it possible for Sony to improve its implementation of 3D in a firmware release or is that hardware based? Even though I believe the Z9D is the best TV Sony has ever produced I don't know if they have any desire to improve 3D in a discontinued TV when their new ones don't even have the technology anymore (besides their projector line).

Yeah Ant-Man 3D fares well enough that I’ll watch it that way over the blu ray, but might lean towards UHD if it ever gets released. Not that there’s a ton of crosstalk that bothered me, it just wasn’t that amazing of a presentation.

Are you going to watch Ant-Man and the Wasp in 3D? I’m curious how that is on the Z9D, I just have it on UHD.

Watched Poltergeist (2015) last night.

Pretty good 3D presentation (and an entertaining movie as well with some good performances by both Rockwell and DeWitt who have great chemistry together) with some occassional crosstalk here and there but nothing too bad. If all 3D Blu-rays played like this on the Z9D, I would have little to complain about in that department.

I don't think the 3D on the Z9D could be improved upon with firmware updates, or they would have done it already a long time ago. Personally I am very, very grateful that one of the greatest TVs ever also happens to be one of the last ones with 3D on board.

I may test out the highway chase and some other scenes but I had planned on the 4K for my MCU run up to Endgame. The only other one I had planned to see in 3D was IW.

Been having that strange issue a couple of times again while watching 3D on my 75". I seem to remember reading over at AVS that others have experienced this too. Just like that the glasses seem to lose sync (the entire screen consists of crosstalk) and the lower half of the screen starts to flash periodically. Only thing that fixes this, is to do a soft reset.

On a more positive note, I have just finished watching Transformers Age Of Extinction and save for the subtitles, I can honestly say this disc was virtually completely free of crosstalk (amazing 3D btw and this movie is a lot better than the first two). Anyone else who has this title and had the same excellent 3D experience?

Never encountered that meself, but then as I don't watch 3D a whole lot on the ZD9 my experience doesn't count for much. I'll have to give AoE a try sometime.

Sorry guys, but I've completely fallen out of the loop on here in regards to updates with Dolby Vision on newer Sony televisions. My question is: has anything changed in regards to DV playback on high-end Sony TVs like my 930E? Last time I was keeping updated, only Sony UHD players, Apple TV 4K, and on-board apps can playback in DV because of Sony's "low latency" DV profile.

Has anything changed since then? Are there any other 4K UHD disc players that have DV work on Sony televisions? It doesn't seem like much of anything has changed since last year.

Oppo 203/205, Pioneer LX500, Sony X700 and the upcoming models X800M2 and X1100ES. Im just not 100% sure if Panasonic 820/9000 has it yet.

Panasonics do DV on the Sony TVs as well.

Watched Great Gatsby in 3D last night. Wonderful presentation with almost no crosstalk except for the extreme edges of the picture. Really enjoyed it.

Not that it's 3D but I watched Ben-Hur last night on the Z. My eyes almost popped out of my head. Absolutely stunning.

Whatever happened to that firmware to fix the last firmware?

Edit: Ooops, I spoke too soon. Anyone load the new firmware from 4/23/19 (Firmware update to v6.5850)? Mine is on v6.5830 and didn't update when I ran it manually.

Watched a few 3D movies on this recently and have really enjoyed them. Reminded me why I loved 3D so much in the first place. Crosstalk is still present here and there, it really is just title-dependent I think (NOT that the crosstalk is present in the encoded image, it's not, I mean how the TV specifically reacts from one 3D movie to another).

I don't do anything with my settings from 2D SDR viewing in 3D except for pushing the contrast up to 92 to eke out a bit more brightness (checked with Spears & Munsil so that it's not clipping the contrast pattern) and putting the Reality Creation on Manual at level 20 on the slider because I still think that a little detail is being filtered off during 3D viewing.

I just downloaded the Privilege 4K IMAX Enhanced app on my Z9D. There is previews of A Blue Planet, Galapagos, Space Station and The Dream Is Alive. The picture is quite impressive even though the Z isn’t ‘IMAX Enhanced’ sort of speak. I suspect it may be quite capable of the spec. I don’t have an IMAX Enhanced AVR so I cant comment on audio but download this app and see for yourself at how impressive the image is.

Not sure there ever was any kind of different "spec" for IMAX Enhanced video, seeing as it's just using conventional HDR10 with Plus metadata. For TVs it's more of a certification process isn't it? As there's no IMAX Enhanced 'mode' that I'm aware of that a compatible TV goes into.
