I have this update and the X800m2 and while the 3D looks better, it's nowhere near this good.

Note: The Sony glasses and Panasonic 3D glasses I use work without any problems. However I have a couple of no name ones that gave a strange slow off an on in one eye and then when I restarted the TV and synced again it was good again and had to do it for the no name glasses once every couple of weeks. Since installing the latest firmware I never had the problem with the no name brand glasses. |

I just finished the update. I have done a soft reboot on my Z which did fix the flickering image before, only had to do it once and it never came back. I'm talking about the flickering of say a bright daylight scene, very subtle but there due to the active glasses I believe. I just updated and played some 3D titles and noticed the picture seems improved, that slight flickering seems reduced. Didn't notice any crosstalk during scenes from Ready Player One and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It seems after this update I can actually tell a difference when changing brightness of the glasses. I never really noticed any difference before this latest update.

From looking at test patterns on Spears & Munsil 2nd Ed then the crosstalk is still very much present and correct, but when I spun a few scenes from Dr Strange it looked very good for crosstalk, still present here and there yet not overwhelming - not that it actually troubled me a great deal when I watched it last anyway though: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...0#post15518580 so maybe that wasn't the best one to check. Any more crosstalk horrors people could recommend? Edge of Tomorrow was terrrrrrrrrrrrible for crosstalk but I don't got it no more. PS As good as the 3D is on Strange I'm DYING to see it in HDR, fixed 'scope and all, as it is going to look mind blowing. Last edited by Geoff D; 07-11-2019 at 12:21 AM. |

![]() In all honesty and I hate to say this as a 3D fan, but 3D is still slowly fading away. I can't imagine Sony actually taking the time to improve the 3D on the Z9D now unless perhaps it's an unintentional result of something they (intentionally) changed elsewhere. But hey, I would love to be proven wrong ofcourse! ![]() Quote:
The flickering will always be there (and actually be noticable during bright scenes) unless you enable Motionflow. Okay, so you are saying both RP1 and the first Hobbit movie are completely crosstalk free then? I might use those when I do some more testing then. Which model Z9D do you have? Perhaps I'll update one of my TVs just for the fun of it then. It's long overdue anyway since they're both still on the pre-Oreo firmware. ![]() |

I will do some more testing when I have the time. First I want to do some testing again before the update, taking notes of which scenes I used and exactly where and how bad the crosstalk is in those scenes. After that I want to do the same thing again after the update, using the same movies and watching the exact same scenes and see if there are any changes. |

Anyone with an Oppo 203 want to chime in on how the Dolby Vision implementation looks on the Sony Z9D?
I’m debating between an Oppo 203 or getting a Sony X800M2 with Dolby Vision and an Oppo 103D (I sold my Oppo 103D before and have to say I miss it as well as the Darbee implementation). I’m not happy that the new Sony X800M2 player doesn’t have auto Dolby Vision implementation but I can always switch it on and off and hope for a firmware update if need be. However, I would love to hear more thoughts regarding Dolby Vision with the Oppo 203 as I have heard some conflicting thoughts on the way the Oppo 203 works with the Sony model TVs. |
