![]() I've been watching a fair amount of 3D movies lately on the 75" (Wrath Of The Titans and Piranha 2010 amongst others), and it's a blast. More than enough brightness to spare, no flicker with Motionflow set to standard and crosstalk has been negligible for the most part. ![]() |

Speaking for myself, I think the 3D on this set is awesome. Once you fine tune all of the settings. I like the 3D on my JVC projector better, but only for the reason that the image is 159 inches rather than 75.
Speaking to conversions, I've seen some films that had really nice conversions. There are more bad ones than good (IMHO). I think there are a few reasons 3D died, and it was a combination of all of the below. First of all, when it was introduced, you could buy certain movies only as exclusives from Samsung, then Sony did the same thing (I think it was Sony) so you had different movies for different companies and the only way to get them was for a huge sum on Ebay if you didn't have a certain brand TV. Then they introduced active and passive, already at the very start is was consumer confusion. Active glasses then cost a fortune, for a family of 4 you needed to spend around $600 or more for 4 pairs of glasses. Then stupidity came into it when Warner Brothers converted the 2nd Clash of the Titans film to 3D only weeks before its release and people paying a premium at the theater were treated to one terrible 3D conversion, and other movies were to follow. There were good conversions later on, but the first ones were awful. I know because I took my mother to see that Titans film and paid an extra $7.50 admission for each of us, and my mom actually took her glasses off. Then came blu-ray 3D, and some of the sales people at stores like Best Buy were not really educated about the different forms of 3D, so much of what they said to me when I would go in was stupid jibberish. It's really sad how 3D was rolled out. I believe it was one of the worst, if not the worst, roll out of any new entertainment format ever. But the worst kick in the a** has been the electronic companies not offering a single 3D model while 3D blu-rays are still being released (especially 2017 through 2019 including Disney and Star Wars films). |

Agreed on most of those points, the lack of interoperability between the various types of 3D in the home was another big thing that killed it off: it was too much of a faff for the average person.
As for it being the worst roll out of any home entertainment format ever, UHD says "hold my beer" (and they've actually made many of the same mistakes as with 3D). |

Clash Of The Titans is a great popcorn movie, but the 3D conversion was bad. Such a shame that it had to be that one that was chosen as the first 3D live action movie to be released on the format. Along with Conan 2011 (which was another pointless 3D conversion, since there are literally only a couple of shots that have a little bit of depth to them), it's the only 3D Blu-ray I watch in regular 2D.
But afterwards a lot of great 3D conversions were released and at some point, they really seem to have gotten the hang of it. Alice In Wonderland/Through The Looking Glass, Titanic, Ghost In The Shell, Kong Skull Island, 300: Rise Of An Empire, Star Trek Into Darkness, the list goes on and on and on. The one thing 8K would be of real use IMO, is to add passive 3D to those sets (providing the FPR filter has no negative impact to eiher the 2D or 3D picture). |

Consistency for 3D content is absolutely bazookas for the 65". I can watch 'The Last Jedi" and it plays wonderfully, then I can try 3 other random titles (not so random, the Mummy, Aquaman, and Star Trek Beyond) and they are completely lacking, unimpressive, and glitchy. All of which look astonishing in projection! It aint the glasses causing the issues for the Sony...I checked. |

The other titles I mentioned are very good 3D ( "Beyond" being great) and look it on my DLP projector. As far as 3D goes, I'm long past buying every title just to "experience" 3D. Life is too short to watch "Cats, and Dogs" in 3d...no matter how much "depth", and "pop out". |

Not sure what it is but my big Z just got a big software update. Glad Sony is still taking care of their "flagship"

After the last firmware update the TV's been good and stable in an operational sense but as soon as I'd upgraded I got audible 'pops' when switching inputs so I hope they've fixed that.

Not much changed according to the Eu site.
Firmware update to v6.6575 Benefits and Improvements: Solves a network error issue caused by an incorrect system time setting. Fixes a blinking LED issue on AG8 models and improves system performance. |

I have everything routed through my receiver which has pass through and switching even when off - now I'm wondering about this.

Now that you mentioned this I've had that issue as well. I always thought it was my receiver but it didn't happen with earlier TV firmware.

I'm not using an AVR whatsoever, the players are connected directly to the TV and the little 'pops' (they sound like a tiny burst of static) are coming through the TV speakers.

Does anybody know how fast the Wi-Fi speed of Z9D can be up to???
I'm using a 300M network, but the speedtest on my Z9D only shows 200Mps at download. Have I set something wrong??? |
